How do you go about asking if a place is hiring?
I'm starting to look for summer jobs, but how do I go about doing this. Right now I'm planning on going into restaurants, hotels and retail stores. What do I do once I get in there?

Winterwonderland.
you just say, "are you hiring at this point for summer help?"

Just call and ask. I used to monitor people on house arrest & had to call employers all the time to make sure they were hiring (didn't want those sex offenders pulling a fast one on us when asking for "job search time").

They don't interview you on the phone or anything... they just say "yes," or "no." Although I once interviewed for a position as a registered nurse that way. They even seemed interested in hiring me. :)

are you guys hiring?

Ask to se the manager and ask them. Bring a resume with you and leave it even if they are not hiring at present.

SAChicky
Well, you can always look up their website and usually they post jobs there. If not, just go into the place of business and just ask if they are hiring for the summer.

The best way to approach this type of job search is to determine what position you would apply for before you enter. Tell whoever greets you that you would "love to work here, could I please have an employment application". Be prepared to answer questions like "what position are you interested in, and what kind of experience do you have. Don't go in blindly and say you'll do whatever, I rarely if ever consider this type for employment.

Talk to anyone that works at the store/ restaurants and jus say that youre interested in working for that restaurant and if there are any application papers that you can fill out... you might want to also ask if they are hiring before you waste your time loL

::penguins::
go to the cashier and ask if your hiring.
or ask the manager.
sometimes a sighn will be posted on the door that says they are looking for emplyees

I like to call ahead of time and figure out who is in charge of actually hiring you. It could be HR or in a small company just the boss. Figure out when that person is going to be there. Show up. If that person refuses to see you because they are busy, set up an appointment to see them. They will either hire you because you are persistent or tell you to hit the road because you are annoying. Either way, it is better to talk to a hiring manager than filling out an application and waiting for them to call you back. Good luck

Walk up to the front desk and ask if they are hiring? Then no matter what they say, yes OR no, ask for an application. Fill it out and attach a resume if you have one. Take one day and go to everywhere! Just like you were going to a job. Good luck.

Roger P
First, see if there are signs posted at the place. Once, you see that they are hiring, ask for the manager and ask for an interview. Make sure you have your resume with you.
