How do you mark the price of something up by 40%?
What's the formula?

shaneeiu
What ever the price you bought the product at x 40%

aimer_4
times the number by 1.40
(or you can just times it by .40 then add that number to the original number. But the first way is faster)

Kula21
Multiply by 1.4

Bunny D.
Multiply the cost of the item by 1.4......the answer is 40% up from the original price.

Nightshade911
Multiply current price by 1.4

Or, multiply current price by .4 Take that number and add it to original price. Both will give you the same answer.

Ralfcoder
Depends - do you want 40% of the wholesale price, or should the final price be 40% of the retail price? There is a difference.

Cost of item + 40% of Cost of item = marked up price.

Virg

price X .4= what you add to the price.

100 X .4 = 40
40 + 100 = 140 40% price increase.

termacide
sya you have a t shirt for 20$ and you wanna upcharge by 40%

20$ x (.4) = 8

then you add the number you get (8) to the original value

20 + 8 = 28

sharkbait
Let P = the price of the item

1.4 times P = the new cost of something that has been marked up by 40%

Find 10% by dividing by 10.
Next times the 10% u just found by 4.
Now add that answer to the price of the item u want to mark up by 40%
e.g. There's a top for £10 and you want to increase the price by 40%.
(Find 10%) 10/10 = 1
1x4=4
10+4=£14
Hope i helped!
