You said she is your girlfriend. If she is underage, you need to let her parents know about this. She has a serious problem and the only way she can be helped is to get professional and medical help. The people who mentioned bi-polar and depression are right on target. Self mutilation is a sign of serious depression. This isn't something to fool around with, and yes, it's a cry for help. If you really love her, you can't worry about whether she will get mad at you or not. You need to find help for her.
If the two of you are adults, it may be more difficult since you aren't married. About the only thing you can do is tell her how much you care for her and try to get her to seek professional help You can't make her go, but maybe you can influence her to get the help she needs.

i used to have that problem and i was forced to go to a hospital and had to see a shrink. they put me on antidepressants and diagnosed me with bi-polar. try getting her help fast before she goes to far. i was really helped and havent cut myself for over a year now. |

There is nothing you can do for her. She needs to get professional help. I am very serious. There is something very wrong. I have seen this type of behavior before. The best thing you could do is see if you can get her to go for help. I hope every thing works out for her. |

The only way to stop her from doing this is to be with her 24/7 to watch her, or have someone else be with her. First of all, you need to understand that if something serious happened to her, it's NOT your fault. She's letting you know this, because she WANTS help, it's a cry for help and sometimes just attention. The bottom line is that she's not happy and needs medical attention soon. I had to deal with this before, someone close to me.
If you're afraid that you can't pay for it, don't worry. There are ALWAYS free clinics. The most important thing is to just be there for her, in whatever she needs..don't talk if she doesn't want you to, hold her if she wants you to. You should know that if she admits herself voluntarily, she can leave at anytime. If the hospital admits her, she'll have to stay atleast 3 days, mandatory. Watch out that she doesn't try to b.s. her way out of having to stay when she is being evaluated. If you can, print out the email and bring it with you. Even if she begs you not to take her, the point is, she NEEDS to go! Make sure she keeps all follow up appts. |

The best thing to do is to go to her and talk with her. Show her that you love her and tell her all about the great things that have happened to you guys. Also talk about her problems that you want to help her. It's better for a friend to be there for her than professional help which I don't think knows anything about her.. :) |
