UncleDaddy | How do you stop these kind of people from calling your home? |
Lately I’ve been getting phone calls from this number: 866-776-8221.
I put the number into Yahoo’s search engine and I got this link that takes you to their website.
http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/settlement/about13489.html
I neither have need of nor do I wish to do any kind of business with them.
I’ve called this kind of number before to tll them to stop calling and it doesn’t stop them.
What can be done to stop them? |

if that's the only number they are calling from, simply block it. (check w/ your phone company on how to do it) |

I can answer this as I work for a debt company. The best thing you can do to stop it when they call you pick up the phone and very nicely tell them I have no debt. Here is why: They bought your number from a lead broker and that lead broker got your number and info from something some one filled out on line using your info. The company that is calling you is under obligation to call until they get a hold of you. Putting your name and number on a national do not call list wont help because someone actually had to sit at a computer somewhere and submit your info so that now it is considered a request and not solicitation. Sorry about that but this is the best way I can tell you that I know to stop and by the way that lead broker may have sold your lead to as many at 10 people. The sooner you tell them no and ask them to let their lead broker no the less that you will be sold down the line. People do not relize that by avoiding the phone that causes their name to stay in the system. Make sure you tell the rep that is calling you to let their lead broker know that the request is not legit Hope that helps

P.S. The do not call list does not apply to a request. It will not stop and you can not sue as the company will be able to produce a lead with your info on it and a request to be called. You may not have filled it out but someone did useing your number . |

Call your phone company and lodge a complaint. You can also put your phone number on the Do Not Call List. The phone company would be able to help you with this as well.
Good luck. |

1. find out who is the attorney general in your state
2. call the company, and when you get a live person on the phone, say:
"I hope you are also recording this conversation, because I am. My phone number is (bla bla bla) I do not want your company to call me again, this is your first and only warning, if it happens again I will contact so-and-so, who is the attorney general of the state of (whatever). Do you need me to repeat my phone number before I hang up?"
This will do the trick, because companies can be fined up to $10,000 for harassing someone after they have demanded to be taken off list.
I have done this with sattelite tv companies, debt consolidation companies, and collection agencies who keep calling for the person that had my number before I got it. It works like magic, they don't call anymore. They can't. And I have never recorded my call, I just tell them that. If you want to actualy follow through and record the call, you really can go after them. It's a hassle, but it can be done legally. You just tell them up front you are recording. |

Next time they call, answer it and tell them you're on a DO NOT CALL list and it will stop immediately. You can also register your phone number at
www.donotcall.gov
The businesses have a certain no. of days to comply, if not and they still do, they'd be fined heavily by the goverment. |

Not sure what the web address is but there is a site for a national do not call list, you can probably search for it and sign up. |

National Do not call list, You should also write them saying not to call, if they continue to call you can call the phone company and they will advise you what to do next. |

Have you added your number to the Do Not Call registry? If not, that is your first step. If after 90 days the calls do not stop, they will be in violation of the laws governing the registry. If you are home when they call, take their call. Get the name of their organization and the person calling. Request that you be removed from their calling list. If they call back again, once again document who called and from which organization. Then begin contacting I believe the FTC(Or is it the FCC?!?!) The company can be fined for each occurance after they have been notified that you no longer wish to receive their calls. |

Some states have a "do not call" list for bussiness looking to sell products or services over the phone, get on the list and file suit aginst any company that still calls you. |

Call 1-800-Opt-out. It is the national do not call list. They won't be able to call you any longer without being fined. |

Next time they call start speaking to them then claim someone is on the phone and say hang on a sec.....
put the phone down on the counter and go watch TV. once you wasted their time once or twice they will stop calling. Works great with sales calls and telemarketers. |
