Very good question. It has adversely affected the quality of service provided by the airline companies. Quality of service is becoming worse day by day.... |

Two ways to look at it ... for one , airtravel is affordable, which encourages a larger cross section of the society to fly . This in turn increases the need base , luring more players who provide service. Simply put.... more people wanting to fly , more planes are made to make this happen.
Second, with aggressive pricing hoping to cut into the market share, airline companies have resorted to cut the wrong corners...customers satisfaction ... but a trade off a few ppl are willing to make as they realize that one cant pay like a beggar and travel like a king ...
So with that said , i would say ... when we even out such factors and many more...overall its good for the aviation industry as a whole. |

Yes the low cost airlines hs effected the development of aviation sector bt in a positive way.earlier travelling in airlines ws a dream fr many bt after wallet friendly airlines came, it made it easy fr the middle class to travel to skies. |

Low cost airlines are the need of the day - gone are the days when you had to pay exorbident airfares to fly from city to city. There should be more budget airlines, so that companies who claim to be full fare carriers are kept in check. They charge a bomb on the excuze that they provide meals & other allied services. It is a pity they are unable to adjust to the new environment & provide a good deal to their old frequent fliers. We were exploited previously. Regarding development of the industry - it will develop regardless of high or low fares. Where there is a will there is a way. I see no way in which you can justify higher fares in the name of development of aviation. Airlines had a Monopoly for so many years yet Jet or Indian were in no way able to develop the aviation industry despite having higher fares. noone benifited only airline co's who are now longing to see those old days again. |

On the contrary it has opened out opportunities for air travel within reach of a common man, who from far off grounds, used to look to and envy air travellers as some specially privileged human category. Besides, monopoly of pricing by elite will be checked by severe competition. So a buyers market ultimately! |

Low cost airlines is really elevating the Indian aviation industry, but it is really pushing hard the laws. It is increasing the competitions among players n this is making the board to create new rules n regulations which may b vry critical...... |

Low cost airliner has made the whorl aviation industry up side down. It has made a profit; which was at a time not even imagined, that it would be possible to achieve! Now almost every person has a chance of flying today or tomorrow. It has boosted our economy undoubtedly.
Low cost airline has made the high cost airline think to reduce their prices. Before airlines were making profit as wished by them. But now they have to compete and then win the match.
Therefore a question like this is totally illogical asking!!??
Question does not arise only. |

Though the cost is stated to be low, the passengers are being taken for a ride by denying free refreshments and selling beverages ,snacks or refreshments at prohibitive cost. Many a time confirmed ticket holders are offloaded at the last mo
ment.Flights are either cancelled or scheduled departure being delayed indefinitely without prior notice.Recently a news item showed that a physically handicapped person was refused to board a flight by a particular service. One can also come across incidences of persons with valid tickets denied entry under the pretext of not maintaining dress code. You cannot even complain about the non functioning of systems like AC or toilet flushing. |

It has been real boon for domestic travel. the cost of travelling is at par with railways and it saves great amount of travel time. For a journey of 2 to 3 hrs or less no one is really keen to have any thing except water from the airline crew. It is not very far when all airlines shall realise that the only facility a passenger wants is a comfortable seat and punctuality and thus additional cost due to meals/snacks being provided by some is not really necessary.
As a matter of fact, airlines should tie up with railways so that long journeys are undertaken by air where as short journeys be done by rail/bus. It shall ensure all round growth for all means of transport be that be,airline, railways, road transport. |

Hi!
To offer low air fare, certain sacrifices are to be done at the cost of safe fly. They are:
1.Reduction in maintenance by hiring low skilled technician
2.Quality of service will go down in flight in caring passengers
3.Heavy crowd in the air port
4.ETD is not maintained as flight full of passengers are not met for every flight. Then they club all who are waiting since morning to evening in one flight, which will fly at 22:30 in the night. Then very purpose of fly to meet urgent work is defeated. Then where is the quality and safety and all.
5.Bad quality maintenance may result in accident. Then safety is defeated.
6.Quality pilots may not available for low pay, which will result in low performance.Hence not safe to fly.
7.Poor quality of maintenance will lead to break down of engine at any time.Hence not safe to fly.
8.Delaying the flight for want of passengers will reduce confidence to a particular air line.
Hence in total air line industry and flying necessity is effected. |

The economy boom and exposure of common people are the good things happened; on the other hand the quality of service and personalised attention along with safety measures have come down in standards. |

Look, there are low cost airline and high cost airline. We are developing country, we can afford to the low cost, at the same time in near future after our development, we can opt for high cost airline also. |

low budget airlines operates at a mimimal cost so everthing is comprimised sometimes even the safety of the flight and passengers is at stake |

No, not at all affected the Industry adversely. In fact, a new class of people have been added to Airline Users at this level. This of course, will increase the demand for Transport Air crafts with minimum luxury without compromising on Safety, Security and Optimum Performance. Also, this encourages Flight Scheduling in lean hours, increasing the revenue of airports without increasing the facilities. |

The industry would grow, making it possible for anyone to fly at a low cost. Then larger airplanes, like, air-ships, with low maintenance costs would be developed, such as airplanes running on solar energy or solar lightning energy, making use of the free fuel available. Hai, what a world -roads would lay deserted, waiting for motor vehicles to run and train service would close down. All of us would fly...fly..fly.... how's that. |

Low cost airlines has brought in new meaning in aviation industry.Cost effective, time saving and generating employment - the effect is tremendrous and if these airlines provide ontime, efficient, safe and courteous service like South West Airlines in US - we cant ask for more. |

This (the low cost) can only be in the short run to lure the passengers, and therefore, the effect on the aviation industry is only marginal and for a short period. Later, when passengers, unmindful of the small hike compared to train fare, shift to airline journies, imagine the revenue the industry, and of course, the government gets. The competition is quite healthy and the passengers ultimately and rightly get rewarded. |

If I say specificly about Air India and Indian Airlines. The management isn't that good. I had one relative come to India from Chicago and plane had engine trouble in the route and they had to land somewhere and Germany and stay there for FOUR DAYS! because there was no other "airliner" they could aboard!
This happened twice last month to someone I know!
So, I would not blame the Pilots or the Air Hostess but only the management who is responsible for this! |

The effects are quiet clear, there is hardly any difference in Indian airports & its railway stations. It is obvious with the lower in fare common man is able to fly but you can see the charm of flying has been lost. When there is a sudden change in any field, man takes little time to understand and accept that change. May be it will take some time for people to accept the change in a positive way. |

well it has really affected but in both ways.we have mixed reactions for each and everything and similarly in this case it has increased the air traffic by much, conditions at airport r becoming worse , even international airports like igi or sahar r affected by these low cost airlines. Airlines r not making world class aircrafts as they r providing low fare tickets.
even in airlines like deccan . indigo, paramount u dont even have seat numbers. lucky if u capture a better seat. So airline industry is not developing at world level.....
but on other hand it has been a gift for people travelling in trains or buses.fare for an ac ticket is same as of airline.
and more importantly its not time consuming..
after all business for airline industries lies in this policy
therefore who cares........ |

Indeed a good question that would invite mixed reactions - as expected.
From my perspective - I see it favorable. Eventually for people wanting to have a class, luxury, the riches, utmost comfort (more than you demand) and blah blah etc., there's more in life they can indulge in just to spend rather than look for the same in basically - travelling.
Although, I do agree that customer service should be maintained at some or the other professional level for air travel, I see it beneficial and affordable for the people - which is what a travel should be.
After all we all travel not just for the comfort of a cozy airplane seat OR pretty smiling hostesses (somehow miss them on Air India & Indian Airlines :) OR taking a look over the clouds. The prime reason I believe is to travel fast. With the low cost airlines in place, it certainly is helping out the people. Further any such business catering to a majority ideally never goes down - that speaks for development options in aviation industry too - right !! |

Not in the real sense. In fact people are looking for more low coast air lines to come in future .Punctuality is the key factor in these airlines .There is no service involved except landings and take-offs.It has not affected the industry as such. |

i dont think that low cost airline has affected people. infact it has helped middleclass people to travel in an airline. many unemployed people r employed in an low cost airline. |

low cost carriers no doubt help the low and middle class segments in the country to travel by air. but it has badly affected the revenue management of these airlines. All these airlines are in real bad losses. That is the reason why most of them vanish or consolidate with a big player. No doubt the concept worked wonders in europe but in india we may have to relook at the strategy not just in terms of low fares |

i thik, the new trend of low-cost airlines has provided stiff compititiveness in the sector. the quality is however not upto the level but for short distance journeys its good and economic. now, the rates of all othere airlines are also falling adding fuel to the new market overtaking monopolies. its great time for the common man to full fill his wish of flying high. best as it is economical and time saving too. i love the buzzzzzzzzzzzz. |

Low cost airlines have shown middle class people that they can also fly. In many sectors air fairs are even less then the 3 tyre or 2 tyre railway tickets - definitely people will go for the air option. Bcz of affordable prices, no of people travelling by air has been increased. This has resulted in overall increase in air traffic. Many low cost airlines coming into market which has also given some threats to premium class airlines.
Premium class airlines have also either reduced or offered discounts in airfares which has resulted in further increase in people travelling by air and increase in aviation business.
Also low cost carriers have given birth to new concept of flying where u r flying only for travelling purpose. example u will not get any additional services which u may get in premium class airlines (with high rate of tickets). Air travel is becoming more and more common and is somewhere bcz of low cost airlines. |
