Why would you not try a flash. |

Well just take the picture. I think the real question is how is it possible to take a picture in the dark and still be able to see the image. See that wasn't hard was it? My suggestion would be to paint your face a neon color, or sprinkle some glow in the dark solution. Or.... just buy a really expensive camera that has adjustments for the dark.. |

1) By using an electronic flash, or flash bulbs
2) If you want to take photos with existing light, you can use high ASA numbered film without having to use flash in some circumstances. |

Don't use the flash and let the shutter stay open... (for real lens cameras where you can do these sorts of things) |

It depends on what kind a camera you have, but you should be able to use the flash to iluminate your subject. On most digital cameras, you can choose an option like night/flash, and it will enhance your photo.
If you don't want to use your flash, you can sometimes change the shutter speed, put it on a tripod, and the picture will absorb more light, therefore capturing more of what you are trying to photograph!
Good luck! |

Open the aperture, slow the shutter speed and get a tri-pod. This is assuming you aren't using a point & shoot style camera. |
