OMG!! The math skills among some of these answers is atrocious! Listen up people!
1,000,000,000 is the numeral for 1 billion.
1,000,000 is the numeral for 1 million.
1 billion has 3 more zeros than 1 million.
1,000 has 3 zeros.
Therefore 1 billion is a thousand times greater than 1 million.
It doesn't matter where you are in the world!
So the answer is it takes one thousand millions to make a billion. |

One thousand million makes a billion -- in the USA. Other countries use the same words to refer to different numbers. In the USA, then:
10^6 is a million
10^9 is a billion |

In Theory, it is - however - becoming more popular to use the USA system. |

I believe in the UK it is defined as a 1000 million, in the US it is a million million.
Please don't ask how may millions make a trillion! |

One thousand million equals one billion.
If you are reading something fairly old, maybe fifty years or so, then if they refer to a billion, they will probably mean a million million (a one, followed by twelve zeros). Because that's the old, British Billion. We started to use the American billion (a one, followed by nine zeros) quite a few years ago. |

the British often say Thousand Million instead of Billion, as in "that program cost ten thousand million dollars"
1,000,000,000 is a million
1,000,000,000,000 is a billion
one thousand million is a billion
Some countries do use billion to describe a million million, but it is considered old usage in the English language. |
