You get ten points, but most important is answering the question in a way to which others may agree with you and you rate your answer therby getting an extra point for every thumbs up rating.
It also helps if you really answer the question asked with alot of respect and not be judgemental towards them for whatever question they are asking. Sometimes they really are wanting an answer to what they are asking. |

10 is correct, but rie-rie said, "10 and I think you should award them to the person who answered first as that would be fairest." and I have to say that if you are speaking about this question only, you are right, but if you refer to all questions on answers.yahoo.com, this would be wrong. Answers should be rated on quality, not speed.
In the case of this question, amy2181989 answered first and had the correct answer, so the best answer should be awarded to her. Other questions can get very complicated and the person who puts up the best answer, even if they posted at #59, should get the points.
The whole idea of this forum is that people can ask questions and get good intelligent answers. Of course there are some who answer without applying anything that resembles competent intelligence, or language comprehension. Regarding language comprehension, I am not talking about people who speak English as a second language, because they are still working on their skills, but rather about native English speakers, US, UK, Canada, etc.
You might get your points for just any answer, but if you take the time to research the question and give a good answer, you not only helped someone, but you learned something yourself. Rating resolved questions lets you get points and learn from the answers of others. |

If you are selected the best answer you get 10 points and then when someone rates your best answer you get a point for each rating too. So you could get a ton of points for it. |
