It depends. IF you want to spend it in VN it is probaly slightly over 16,000 VND/US$ now - I have been out of the country since late Feb, sorry!
If you want to buy something made in VN, then you should compare it to what it would to get the very SAME item in your home country! If A 33,000VND (US$2) knick nack costs US$17 in your home town, by my reconning, 1 US$ in VN is equal to US$8.50 in your home town, for that item!
Now, if you buy an item in VN that is not available in your home country, the value of that item is essentailly priceless, or if not that expensive, at least so high that your home insurance company would argue with you on coverage!
If you like it, get it! You probably won't find it back home, and you won't find it nearly as cheap - unless you are a no-bargaining type of buyer! In which case 1US$ = around US$.00237 in the local Vietnamese markets. The sellers will LOVE you!!! |

The currency in Vietnam is rather amusingly called the dong. There are about 15,900 dongs to the dollar. Should you purchase any dongs while there, you need to convert it back to dollars before you leave as it is illegal to take their money out of the country.
So basically your dollar is worth about 15,000 dongs, whatever that buys you. Or whatever you can negotiate for it as a dollar. |
