I am getting ready to send a friend something who lives in the UK and she wants to pay me for it. It cost $7.00 in US money so how much would that translate to in UK pounds?
Perhaps you should just make it a gift. It'll cost a whopping 3.5 pounds, not even enough to buy a beer over there. It'll take more time to do the money transaction than what $7.00 is worth.

Dont send a cheque as the costs of collection would be too high. Use International money orders - see Wells Fargo as I think they give good deals.
See any financial paper to work out the value but US$ is worth about 50p nowadays.

Current exchange rate is $1.9156 to £1
$7 = £3.65
However if your friend sends you £3.65 it would probably cost more than that to exchange it back to dollars Easiest solution would be for your friend to go to the post office and ask for $7 in notes to post to you. The amount your friend pays will change according to the exchange rate in force at the time but they don't charge commission.
Alternatively your friend could go to the bank and get an international money order for $7 to send to you but that will probably cost more than the $7 to issue.

More so with the exchange rate being in the £2 to the dollar mark, I find the general rule is:
Halve the dollar and double the pound in order to do a quick convert.
