How much money do you need in the bank to have a visa gold card?

none but you have to have a certain amount of income each month to qualify for a GOLD CARD I beleive it is Â£20000 a yr

It depends on your credit rating, not your bank balance.

I have had a Visa gold card for years. At the time I got it my bank account would have next to nothing in it every month. However I always paid my debts and stayed within my credit limits. Its your credit score that matters not how much you have in any particular account.

Its usually you level of income rather than bank balance. Depending on the bank that issues it it can be anywhere from Â£10k to Â£20k. But obviously you have to have good credit history.

Think it goes on what you earn rather than amount in the bank.

This way the credit card company know you can pay it back !!

You dont have to have anything in your account. Credit cards are based on your credit rating.

However Gold cards are issued to people whom have a certain level of income depending on the card issuer.

For my Gold Card from Halifax you have to have good credit rating and an anual income of Â£30,000 or more whilst my brothers Barclay Gold Card you have to have an income of Â£45,000 pa

The term "gold card" is used by the different credit card companies to mean different things.

Some reserve it for their richer customers, others use it as a status symbol that they give to everyone to attract new customers ("look mum, I've got a GOLD card now.")

Some gold cards are only available if you pay an annual fee.

In general, though, the amount of credit you'll be offered depends on your "credit rating", which isn't particularly related to your bank balance, but includes:

- Where you live
- Your age
- Whether you're in full-time employment
- Your job title
- Whether you have other credit cards
- Whether you own your own home (and have a mortgage)
- Whether you pay off the balance in full on your credit card each month.

The ideal customer is someone in their 20s-40s, in a management job (but NOT a director), with a house, a 50% mortgage, and a couple of credit cards that they run a balance on rather than paying off each month.

On the annual fee thing, look at whether there's a reward scheme. If you're spending a more than a grand a month on your credit cards (easy to do if you're spending Â£450 a month on a railcard, or have the kind of job that involves making expenses claims back rather than getting the company to pay in the first place), then you may find that some of the schemes that give "double rewards for an annual fee" may well be worth while.

For example, I pay Â£120 a year to Amex! The difference between that and the "free" credit card is that I get double the BA miles... And in 2 years can earn enough to fly my wife AND me to North America in BUSINESS CLASS....so we get a business class flight for the fees that would have paid for economy :-)
