to do what?
Back to the old "need" versus "want"...
"Need" is really very little really, maybe a few hundred, maybe thousand a year? If shelter is provided, then food and water is all you need... you could live in the woods for very little. I used to know of a guy in Berkshire who did this, nice chap by all accounts, a little "woody" at times apparently... but didnt seem to go without and was remarkably happy all things considered. Not sure it is ideal for a family and entertaining during winter is probably interesting, but during the summer I'm sure he had a whale of a time.
"Want", on the other hand, I would say around an annual income of £30k-£40k is sufficient for someone single to live a fairly decent lifestyle without any major financial concerns in the UK, London is obviously slightly higher while some other parts of the country may well be a bit less. If that person is into fripperies and trumperies and all sorts of everything, then I doubt any amount is ever enough!
This clearly doesn't mean a couple need £60k-£80k annually and a couple with 1 child need £90-£120k and so on, as it doesnt really work like that... they don't each need one whole house etc... the additional amount is really only for extra food (which isnt a great deal in the whole scheme of things (maybe 10%?)) and for life's little luxuries... so a couple should be all right on £35k-£45k.
More is always nice though! |

enough to be comfortable.
To not worry about bills, and be able to treat yourself occasionally |

It depends where you live. E.g. up north 35 grand a year is a good salary and will get you a nice flat or house in a nice area with money left over for a car, clothes and nice holidays. In London it's pretty much chicken feed and won't get you much more than a studio flat in a scummy area without anything much left for anything but food and bills. |

Depends on what makes an individual happy.I've discovered that money doesn't always make things better. But I suppose speaking on a economic level, $60-$160...depending on where you live...also based on a person's specific needs and wants. |

Depends whether you just want to survive, or live like Paris Hilton. Personally, I would be happy with enough to pay the bills without worrying. |
