Go around your neighborhood and leave flyers on people's doors. This way you don't have to confront anyone face to face but you still let them know who you are and what you do. Be sure to include contact info, why you are a good babysitter, age, price, and maybe some fun stuff like what you like to do or what types of things you'lll help their kids do (art projects, help on homework, ect ect) Good Luck girlie! |

Once its warm, hang out at your neighborhood park. Also talk to the parents you work for and let them know to talk to other parents. Thats how we find ours. (although some parents dont like to share good babysitters) I wouldnt do anykind of posting, you mentioned cause of weirdos. |

Is there a store in your local area where there is a bulletin board? Make up a sheet with your number and say "I have references!" on the sheet.
The best thing is when you reputation spreads via word of mouth. Always encourage those you sit for to let their friends/family know you are a reliable sitter and you are looking for jobs.
PS - On a side note, it's not good to have a monthly bill without a regular monthly income...at 14...that's not going to be easy to find. I'm betting your parents hooked you up with the phone bill I don't think you could sign a contract at your age. So ultimately satisfying the bill will fall to them. Just do your best. |

have you taken any certification classes? CPR or babysitting help a bunch. Once you have taken them you can add that to your fliers. Take your fliers to the elementary schools - you know there are a bunch of moms there!

Put up flyers at your local grocery store or Wal-Mart, put them in mailboxes of folks in your neighborhood and ask the folks you do babysit for if they have any friends that need a sitter that they could recommend you to...tell them you're wanting to babysit more. Good luck! |

When I babysat, it started by working in my neighborhood and for people at my church. Then it was just by referral to other families. I was also very fair with what I charged - some were poor families or single mom's - so I kept my fee very low for them. Those who could, paid more. Your parents should have people at work that they can talk to for you, and some of your parents may have friends that need sitters, too.
You may also wish to help sell your services by taking CPR and childcare classes through the city or community college. Read up on what to do at the library. Better educate yourself. Learn games to take with you to entertain the kids (you will be a hit with them), and see if you can bring the kids homemade cookies or icecream desserts (if they are good, of course!). Be creative with activities for the kids; find fun stuff that you can cook.
And make sure that you work primarily through referrals - to avoid some weirdo contacting you and putting you in harm's way. And make sure that when they take you home, the parent has not been drinking or under the influence of legal or illegal drugs - have your parents pick you up. You may have to work a little harder in the warmer months to make up for the cooler seasons when babysitting is slower.

I commend your parents for teaching you the responsibility of paying your own cell phone bill. (You can tell them I said so) And to you for carrying your end of that responsibility, & thinking to do it safely. Good for you!
I was going to mention several places you could post ads or flyers, but after reading the above answers, they all had some great suggestions. (The only one I didn't see was your church bulletin... that would be an idea.)

Start with the 3 families you sit for now. Ask them to tell any of their friends/family that you are available for sitting. You can post bulletins with your phone on them at laundry mats, grocery stores, and possibly visit some local day cares and talk to them about giving your name and number to parents looking for evening sitters. |

1. See if you can post a notice at a local daycare center (like a YMCA) in your neighborhood. Parents with children who use that facility are always looking for reliable baby sitters.
2. Go to the local playground on a weekend when the weather is nice and introduce yourself to parents of children playing there.
