I'm depressed about Xmas!?
Hello,
I'm scared little bit because I've just realised that my money are probably not enough to buy Xmas presents for my family and friends. Do you have any ideas how to make some extra money? Thank you very much.

Christmas is not just about presents and money -it's about being with friends and family. If they are true friends they will realise you haven't much money so will not expect anything extravagent - just a small token and a card would be just fine.

beverley.newman1@btinternet.com
Bake some cookies for them, knit a scarf, offer to baby sit/clean/dog sit/ have them round for a meal etc as a gift,it will mean so much more than a commercially bought present and costs you nothing but your time.Merry Xmas.

LillyB
Why not buy cheaper presents instead. It is supposed to be a time of joyfulness and love not fear and depression. Just be a little more creative with your buying and find things that are ruly appropriate for the receiver then it doesn't matter what they cost. One of the best presents I ever had from anyone was a shell a friend picked up on a beach for me as he knew I would love it and he was right.

kevin friend
shops are busy at this time of year and may require part time staff even someone to work in santas grotto, is red your colour

eriverpipe
Wrong way of looking at it. You need to consider how you can reduce your outgoings by NOT buying so many/ such costly Xmas presents. Make some stuff yourself, or if you have any skills (cookery, design, whatever) write out a 'promise' to them..... Your family and friends will (or SHOULD) be happy that you are looking to sort out your financial situation rather than buying them stuff. Otherwise you will just be yet another victim of the hideous over commercialisation of Christmas and its inflated expectation.

You don't have to spend large amounts of money for presents. You can make things such as cookies and candy, and some handicrafts if you are creative. Also, while it is a little late in most parts of the country, you can often find bargains at flea markets and yard sales that you can hide away until Christmas. Depending on your situation, you could take on some part time work either in retail, babysitting, or telemarketing to work into your schedule.

My first idea is not to worry yourself sick about it.There has to be a stemming of the tides to do with materialistic lifestyle. What is a good family and good friends, the true ones are the ones that realise your position and love you no matter what.A bag of sweets from one person can hold the equivalent of a new handbag from another,so cheer up.There does seem to be a noticeable shortage of seasonal work this year,so that part of it at least isn,t you,it,s general.Something will cross your path, and to assist you can have some of my happiness and smiles, that might help.

If you want to make some money and have the time and materials then sell some of your unwanted stuff through eBay.

Similary use eBay and the marketplace options from big online retailers like Amazon to get good quality second hand items.

Another good place is your local charity shop or a charity shop located in a good area for richer pickings.

Good luck and try not to stress. As long as there is some thought behind the gift it doesn't need to be expensive. Sometimes the cheapest present gets the best reaction because it has meaning to the receiver.

If your family and friends are aware of your fiscal plight they will not expect you to spent mega bucks on them. Christmas is not all about money, it's about spending quality time with family and real friends. As Kevin has already said, try asking some local stores if they need any extra help over Christmas. The Post Office often look for extra workes at this time of year too. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

Gifts dont have to be about money. Give of yourself. Find a way to do something for your family and friends that way. They will appreciate it more. Just be together doing things making memories. Memories will last alot longer than anything you can buy and mean so much more. Time is short we really dont know how long we have to love our loved ones. So why not make it really special and show the true meaning of Christmas through your love for your family and friends.
Sorry if this is corny or dumb I just lost my mom yesterday and am just realizing that she wont be here this christmas and I just hope she knew just how much I loved her.

So just give love by doing or saying things that really matter.
Merry Christmas

Don't go crazy trying to make extra money - you'll just wear yourself down. Simply try and be more frugal with your spending. Maybe try baking things for your family members and putting them in nice tins. You can get tins real cheap and the money it takes to bake cookies or something would be real affordable. If you're bent on getting more money, try selling things on eBay, or selling CDs and DVDs you don't need back to stores like FYE, Newberry Comics, or Strawberries. Just some thoughts.
