First, you have to look at your interests and your areas where you have skills or potential to develop skills. Then note down any traits you have that will be beneficial to a company or your area of work - common ones being a passion to learn the trade, ability to work with others, a good work ethic, positive attitude, responsibility, personability, punctuality, etc - and also any experience you might have that would help you, including internships and volunteer work. Don't dismiss these! You could have learned what it means to work an 8-hour day, how to word process, how to be responsible, how to organise, how to be a leader. These are all valuable things.

Then you need a good resume. Include a brief cover letter outlining your best traits as listed before, but be straight to the point and not too arrogant. Above all, indicate that you want to contribute to the company/employer.

Chceck online for resume writing tips. You want to list your skills, objectives, volunteer work, previous experience, and education. In your experience and volunteer work, list your most significant responsibilities; omit superfluous things that don't relate to job-searching at all, like purely social titles (homecoming court, whatever - sounds silly, but I've seen these on resumes before!), and include strictly academic or leadership/scholarship awards.

In your objectives, if you're just looking for experience, don't be too arrogant. Use terms such as you're seeking an "entry level" job in your specified field with "hopes of advancement."

This is pre-job-searching because this is what you need to be mentally prepared. Then you can go through local newspapers and online job listings such as at Monster.com, but you should always have this prepared first, because an email doesn't show your character and skills as well as a resume. Have it ready so that not only do you have it to present in case you're called into an interview, you also know your strengths well enough to answer questions.

For an interview, be punctual, confident, not-too-talkative, direct, and focused. You want to elaborate on the point when answering questions, but you want to keep to the point. You want to be just confident enough to show a good attitude without seeming snobby. You have to show dedication - even before and if you don't get the job! It has to be part of your personality.

Did you ever think about getting a job? Just walk down the street or go to the mall and start putting in applications. Tell everyone you know that you are looking and have them put the word out. Go to the local Dept of Labor and register and see their postings. If you have a disability that's keeping you from working, go to the state Vocational Rehabilitation. And yes, last but not least, look in the newspaper classifieds for job postings. Unless you have skills and experience, don't waste your time with online searches like Monster or CareerBuilder.

You can find good information about various careers at:

sweetgirl
start by looking in the wanted pages. that's what i did. then i just went to places i was interested in working at and asked if they were hiring. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

joey322
best routes to go are:
monster.com
careerbuilder.com
craiglists
newspaper classifieds (get a variety from surrounding areas too)

I also recommend going to temp agencies or staffing agencies. i've used them as a client and as an employee. many of the job they can place you in are temp to hire. many employers like the idea that they get to "try before they buy".

Also, check out your state job agency. they have web services that post your info so employers can see you and they have employer info you can see! also, the state job agencies usually have workshops you can attend and can be great networking environments!

Good luck on the hunt!

State Department of Labor or Temporary Services.

I don't know why ignorant people assume you are on welfare just because you're looking for work. You may have been laid off, just graduated, moving to another area, just want to change jobs or move to a better one. There are so many ignorant people on this Yahoo!Answers it's unreal. Try to overlook them they are hopeless.

look in your area newspaper, they'll have classifieds and you could also try looking for employment websites...like moster.com, careerbuilder.com....
Your best bet thouhg would be your local newspaper. They'll have jobs relating to your area.

If you want a job people will hire you depending on what kind of job ur looking for. If u just want a job, then find a place near home, to save on gas if u have a car, and just walk in and ask for an application.
