When this was fairly new, there were a lot of intelligent questions and equally informative answers. The points was just a race among answers to get to the top of the leaderboard but that did not diminish the quality of intelligent answers. However, as soon as more people teens, atheists and pervs invaded this site, the quality diminished.
It's very hard to find a question worthy of spending your time answering especially if those that get chosen as best answer are usually the one's the askers find funny or hilarious. However, since this is like a drug that one gets addicted to, some answerers answer whatever question they can - stupid or not - for the points maybe or even for a sense of consolation that they are not wasting their time on this site. |

I don't understand the people like that that seem like they are out gor blood. You don't really get anything for the points that I am aware of. I just come here cuz I like trying to help others. Welcome and don't let a few bad apples spoil it for you. Have fun. |

As you gain points you move up to different levels in Y&A.They aren't worth anything as far as money or gifts.It's probably an ego thing for some,Some of us are older and enjoy sharing what we know,but hopefully our answers will help a young person that doesn't have anyone to answer their questions at home!I hope this has helped you to better understand Y&A.Also it is very addictive.And yes some of the questions and replies are rude and some are down right nasty,those I just ignore! |

Some care about points, some don't. Some care if they are helping others, some don't. You should just learn to read between the lines. Check out someone's profile to check their integrity. See how they answer a variety of questions. You can tell a lot about the responder by how they word their response. Some get their kicks by being rude to others. Some people need a rude awakening. It seems that there are all sorts of different makes and models of people here. Young (too much so at times) and even older. Many countries around the globe are represented. Take it for what it is and with a grain of salt. Help those that can benefit from any knowledge and wisdom you possess. And benefit yourself when you can. If nothing else, it's an interesting lesson in human nature. |

It's all in good fun. Just ask your questions when you have them and ignore the answers that don't apply. Try not to take this too serious, alot of people don't care and think they're being funny. If you have serious questions, try asking them to people who really care about you, they'll be the most helpful to you :) |

Why are you screaming?!!! ok. Take a deep breath and lets talk responsibly. Yahoo created yahoo answers so people can get answers for certain questions they have. Sometimes they need some other people's opinion so they can compare their opinion to others. Most of the time, people are bored and yahoo answers give them some time to look at interesting people in this world. Most of the answers are not rude. It's just that sometimes people are bored and they want other people to see their creativity. Just remember that you are asking for answers from regular people not profesionals. don't expect to get professional answers. Just relax and enjoy yahoo answers. Im sure you like to answer people's question and some questions are very serious. But ofcourse there will be stupid questions that sometimes recieved stupid answers. It's life. It's reality. We get the points for fun just like a game. Nobody will get rewarded for a lot of points only maybe some recognition or something. just a game. chill and relax. Breath in breath out. |

It is just a game.. kinda like Pac Man, World of Warcraft or anything else... just with answering questions. Some of us have more time to play so they are the "high score holders" and others have to work on it when they can. It is an escape coming here. And sometimes you have the opportunity to learn something you would have never thought of before. I know I have. |

People are trying to compete with each other. Everywhere in life you will find this.
Yahoo is coming up with ways to reward people who are actually helpful in answering other people's questions. Go to http://answers.yahoo.com/info/scoring_system.php to see what they are planning with the different levels of points.
You can also report someone if you think that their answer or question is breaking the rules. Just click the "report abuse" link next to their name.
To answer your question about the points, people get 2 points for answering a question, but it doesn't rate if their answer is helpful or not. It's up to everyone to police this site and make it useful to everyone.

This is just a place to have fun as far as I can see. Don't take it all so seriously. Some of the questions are good and some of the answers are good...... then there are the others. Just have fun. Beware though, it's addictive. |

you do get points for answering. and asking stupid questions is fun for some people. i think it's just to see who will answer. i guess. and brace your self sweetie. there are rude people everywhere!!! lol can't get away from it no matter where you go. like the old saying "misery loves company". |

BabyBlue, you have to realize the broad brush audience that participates in this type of forum... all ages, all walks of life, and all hiding behind a keyboard and typing notes to a blind, non-responsive screen. It may be for some the only opportunity to exercise any authority, to others a vent, and to all some form of breaking the routine boredom of everyday life and in some way touch others. Take it for what it is; you throw a line into a pool that contains prizes, surprises and pond scum. |
