I'm thinking about having a yard sell this weekend, but I've never had one before and haven't been to many.
What kinds of things should I sell and how do I know how much to sell them for.

Sell whatever you have that you do not use. Clothes, kitchen supplies, books, toys etc.
Household things that people would use or need.

Mark them CHEAP...the cheaper the better. I know it sounds crazy but you actually make more money that way

You can sell almost anything and people will buy it as long as it's about a dollar or so. The important thing is to get out there as early as possible. Hard core yard salers start shopping at the butt crack of dawn.

Sell what you don't want anymore and sell them cheap.

Sjean
You can sell almost anything at a yard sale. If you want to sell things price them cheap and always mark everything with a price.

whoanelly00
sell stuff you don't want. One mans trash, is another mans treasure. Don't overprice anything. People go to yard sales for good finds, not to break the bank. I never price anything over .50 cents.

Ms Fortune
make sure you advertise, and put up posters everywhere, supermarkets, on poles etc, clean everything very well, bring an electrical outlet if your selling anything electric so the people can test it, mark prices according to their condition, and devalue them according to the price they would have gone for new... or you can always say" make me your best offer" if you don't think its worth that much, you can also go on line just to see the value of some of your things or on eBay to see what they are selling for etc.. be prepared to make deals for less if you really want to get rid of stuff, people buy all kind of stuff, from old records , books , comic books , toys etc, to lamps, radios, car parts, clothing, kitchen ware, yard equipment etc... just bring out anything and everything you want to get rid of... and what ever does not sell you can gather up and donate it !! start early, have change ready , and try to have fun !!!

big_balla890
the best thing to do with a yard sale is to put out everyting and anything that you don't want anymore because it will give you a better chance to sell more. As far as the prices go you should leave it at a reasonable level giving the condition of what your selling. but remember that yardsales are all about bargining so make sure if you haggle to not get the short end of the stick.

blr931
sorry cant tell you that it's ALL up to you.

happiestjulia
if you put up signs nearby don't just put 'Yard Sale Today'. add the date

You can sell anything and everything...bikes, tables, books, clothes....basically an outdoor Goodwill...prices are up to you, but just think of how much you paid for it, how old is it, how useful is it still/the condition of it...and remember that people going yard-saling are looking for bargains.

People will buy anything. Stuff that you don't even think has much value will sell.

itzmejessica
just sell whatever you don't need. price things at about 50% cheaper than you bought it. you don't want to sell it fhe same price you got it for cuz people can just go to a store and buy a new one versus an old one. good luck! hope you make lots of money

You can sell anything- just ask a good fair price for things! people will try to get you to take less- it is up to you! I do cash only! Price everything! Arrange everything neat! Good Luck- put your money in like a plastic container- keep it with you at all times! bye

Simon Legree
Sell what ever extra things you think someone will buy but is worthless or close to worthless to you. This way you get rid of old stuff and get money back. Also check the value of the items you are selling so you don't lose money. If you think something might get more money than at a yard sale sell it on EBay.

well if they're of much centimental value i always say KEEP IT but if its "watvea" stuff then sell it for a resonable price ..about half of what you bought it for depending on how old it is ...at least youll make some money rather than nothing

Hi there,
So today is Wednesday, it is probably too late to advertise it in the paper which guarantees a better sale. So you need to put up a lot of signs all over your neighborhood to direct yard salers to yours. Make sure the signs are very clear and easy to read and have all the important information such as: Date, address, arrows, time open and close. Walk away from a distance and ask if you can read the sign. If it is unreadable = no sales!

Yeah, I do have a couple of good tips:

1. Keep it organized! Group like items together and easy to see. Don't leave everything in boxes, there is nothing more unpleasant than having to rummage through a box. Use as many tables or something that has a surface like boxes turned upside down. Things sell better if they're on tables instead of the floor. Hang clothes if you can.

2. Try to price as many as you can as there are some people that just hate having to ask you every time "How much is this?" over and over. Price them CHEAP to sell. You want to be cheaper than a thrift store price. Be sure to start pricing them now, as you won't do it all in one morning. Day or two before is best.

3. Be motivated to negotiate as much as possible because the more you accept offers, the more money you'll rake in and the less items you'll have in the end. Cause if you don't sell, it means no money and off to the thrift store they go. Get them moving!

4. Sell anything you do not want or have no need anymore. If you have clothes sitting in your closet that you have not worn in 3 years, let them go! Anything is sellable. Just go all around your house and keep piling up stuff.

5. Early birds = more money! I don't know what is the common opening time in your area, usually 7am is the norm. Look in your paper and see what sales are advertised in your neighborhood, and have yours open the same time as theirs that way those who go to the advertised sale will notice your signs and swing by there. I once made $400 the first two hours of a garage sale from 6am-8am. I knew the early birds were dealers and have their pockets full of cash ready to spend. By the time it's 10am, people have less money and have more items in their car. So timing is the key here.

NOTE: Just because something is valuable on eBay is NOT going to be sold for that value at a garage sale! I constantly see this happening. A garage sale is where people find CHEAP items. If you want the valued price for it, then sell it on eBay. Trust me, they will not sell for the eBay price at a garage sale. So the ask yourself, do you have the time and energy to sell it on eBay? If not, then you have to be willing to let it go for as much as you can. Those two places are two different buying and selling venues. One does not apply to the other.

Things you don't use anymore. Remember, your junk is another person's treasure!! Have fun with it! I had a garage sale last spring, and made 1400.00 dollars!! Go through all your cabinets, and drawers..people buy most anything! Good luck!

What ever you do not want around any longer. Put what you think is a reasonable price ... but remember you are trying to get rid of it. I only want to take something out and do not intend to take it back inside. The price you set is a starting price ... someone will ask for it for less.

charbar
I always mark my stuff a little higher than what I actually want to sell it for because everyone will ask for it for a cheaper price. This way they think they got a deal and you still get what you want for it.

Theandysullivan
Advertise locally with posters etc. But be prepared for people to show up at 6:00am! Those people are crazy for a deal! Take what you can get really. Unless there a loads of people there. Call the Salvation Army to pick up everything you dont sell later in the day. Good freakin luck!
