I'm training to be a cashier at a Borders Bookstore tomorrow evening. Any tips?
I've just joined the work force so I'm rather new at this stuff. Is it rather hard to work a cash register?

That's one of the easiest things you can do. If you know what a barcode is and can understand the concept of scanning a barcode, you're a shoe in. You just have to be customer service oriented, extremely friendly and be able to count money back to customers....that's about the extent of it.

If you don't get paid very much, then it is pretty easy.

I use to be a cashier at Barnes and Noble. When I was first training it was a little bit scary but I just made sure I paid attention and took notes of anything I thought I would forget. Also, It's a bookstore so It's pretty laid back, if you have any questions make sure you ask your trainer, don't be scared to ask over and over if you have to. Once you get the hang of it, it's not complicated at all, you really don't even need to know basic math because the register tells you everything you need to do. I think you'll really enjoy it there. Bookstores are the most relaxing places to work at. Good luck

Remember the customer is ALWAY'S RIGHT even when you know there wrong. Alway's Smile and be courtious, Count your money back to them when you give them there change. Alway's ask if you can help them find something. Try to learn as much about the store and where everything is so that if a customer asks, you can show them or tell them. And above all, be your self. And never loose your temper in front of them, it looks childish and it makes there day. Remember kindness kills them. So if there mean and grumpy, just keep treating them nice no matter how much you would like to choke them. I learned this the hard way, LOL

Working a cash register is very simple. Considering that borders items all have upc's, all you really have to do is scan the product and total it up. If paid with cash make sure you count quickly, but accurately. Coming up short can cost you your job, but going too slow can cause frustration to customers during the holiday season. Also remember to be positive and be patient with people, cause they can be very annoying and it gets old quick.

people say "be yourself", thats not always a good thing. Be positive, be helpful, don't take too much crap from people, but don't over react to annoying customers. If you have too, be fake!!! Fake being happy, people always say be yourself, but no one wants to be around someone who is upset, angry, or negative.

easy...count the money u give back to someone in their hand tell them the amount...and always say how much money some just gave you outloud such as "out of 20" while you take it from them so they cant argue with u about their change

Work hard, get good recommendations from customers, get promoted and lead a good career.
