Depending on your state, you might not be able to work legally. You might want to check the age restrictions around. I think most states start at 14 and go up to 16.
Any job you can actually get after that would be fine. You just should find something you might like. Minimum wages are going to set how much you make and your employer and your availability will determine how much or often you work. So that means your wage*hours worked = your income. From there you can figure out how long it will take you to save your money.
As far as your current laptop goes, I'd see what's wrong with it. It shouldn't be crashing on you like that. Have someone look at it. Some sort of computer repair tech. |

There's jobs everywhere, Fast food, Retail, Even Telemarketing, but you might have to be a certain age for that. Fast food really will hire anyone who can walk, Just go into a local Mcdonalds or burger king and ask for a Job App.

Depending on where you are I would say mow laws, shovel snow, babysit, things like that. At 15 there are only a few companies which hire and they are for jobs like dishwashers. In my community, there is actually a site which lists companies who employer younger workers. Run a search for your area and see if anything comes up. |

at 15, that maybe tough (the making a bunch of $$ quickly part). I would suggest waiting tables, but don't know if you can at 15.
If you do find a job, and can afford it, I would suggest getting a MacBook. Great for multimedia functions. But make sure your projects are compatible with whatever you use at school.

Well, being 15 might hinder your job-finding task. Along with that, the fast that you're still in school, like me, shows that you probably dont have much experience and it will be harder for you to find a high paying job. Bookstores or fast food places might be a good place to start looking but expect minimum wage and limited hours, its only normal at this age. |

Do odd jobs for neighbors, relatives, .................... like mowing the lawn, snow shoveling, painting, etc. Besides what your mom is willing to spend on one, she if she will match you $ for $ on the money you earn. This will show her you are trying to earn money to help pay for your vista notebook. Good Luck |

Don't buy a mac. If you need to perform multimedia presentations a mac is the last thing you should use. They are terrible for presentations and office applications.
The best option for you would be to buy a copy of Windows XP and run that. It works perfectly. |

Look around everywhere you go and inquire everywhere that you see a help wanted sign. As another idea, try clearing out your room of stuff you don't need and then selling it. It's actually a really good way to make a decent amount of money fast. |

You do not say anything about your Moms financial position , but maybe she can't afford more , or she just wants to show you that you must learn to help her at times - Sorry if this is not the answer you wanted but ......... |

Let's see:
1 - Vista has been reported to have trouble and not being that usefull at all, (this is relative) in your case - for studying - i think windows XP works perfectly, i use it and i was once tempted to switch to vista, and after using it, i'd rather have XP, easier!
2 - My mom also told me that if i ever wanted to spend money on anywhting i wanted, i'd have to get it myself. So i started working, and yeah at first it sucks, but after a while, you have your own money, you buy whatever the hell u want, you hang out with friends and have money, it's cool that you start earning your own money, cuz you control it. Makes you responsible.
Mac's arent exactly the cheapest on the market, so i'd recommed you work hard to get it. |

first of all, dump windows vista it is the system from Gates hell hole ....
go back to XP professional it is the only stable version of windows that works then you shall have no problems with you're system... why spend money on a new system when you have no need to.. buy windows XP Pro you can buy the OEM version cheap for around $130.00.
the mac will not be compatible with your school system.. plus macs are over rated and over priced |

well since your only 15 its harder to find a job. talk to a school guidance councler and ask for help, depending on the state you live you may need a work permit.
other then that newspaper boys get a decent pay and most people give christmas bonuses |

i wanna say that the child labor laws says something about being 16 to work, so maybe you can do stuff around the house or for neighbors, like yard work, pet walking, etc to earn some extra cash |

There are some jobs out there but because of your age, I think most want older kids.
This could be a little difficult but, if the weather is warm where you are, you could do odd jobs around the neighborhood and set yourself a price range for the jobs.

Mowing Grass
Edging
Planting Flowers
I realize you are looking for a faster way to get a lot of money.
Have you and your mom talked about maybe going half way on this computer since it is something for school. Since it is $500.00. maybe you could gather $250.00 and her the other $250. and purchase this $500. computer.
You could also do some shopping around for maybe a computer that does what you need it to but is not so expensive.
I hope I gave you a few options and hope it all works out for you.

Check Pizza Hut, I worked at Pizza Hut when I was 15 (note, this was 22 years ago)
Also, while a new macbook would be awesome, you may want to check out ebay and craigslist for used macbooks. There is not a HUGE difference between the newest macbooks and the oldest macbooks. (note, I didn't say powerbook or ibook. Stay in the macbook family and anything you get will be pretty good)
If you do go new, check the Student or Educational discounts that Apple offers for purchases as well.
There is also the refurbished products in the online applestore as well. |

You won't find a new one for 500.00 I dont' think, but I bought my daughters off of ebay. Its used, refurbished and works just fine. If you go on ebay, go to advanced search and find laptopenterprises, thats his user ID. He sells all kinds of refurbished laptops. Got mine for 200.00 |

To get a job - get out there! Don't delay, and if you need money bad enough, you won't mind where you'll work. Little money is better than no money at all. Why not do dog walking for neighbors? Babysitting? A cashier or waitress? I know when I was in highschool my guidance counselor would have jobs posted - see if your counselor's office has any information about job openings. Look in the newspaper under classifieds for a job too...never know!!! Good luck. |

Depends what part of the country you live in. If it is snow season, shovel walks. If it is grass growing season, mow lawns. You can also hold a garage sale if your family has some things to get rid of. This can raise some quick cash and get rid of a lot of things which may just be in your way. |

I'm surprised your Mom doesn't realize that it is hard for a 15 year old to get work. However, if you live close to a mall, you might be able to work at a Wendy's. I believe they hire as young as 15. But wherever you work, they are going to ask how you will get there. Be sure you have an answer. And the transportation must be dependable.
Another thought might be instead of getting a new computer, take the one you have to a compentent repair place to see why it keeps crashing. That could be cheaper than a new one. Mom might like this alternative.

Most places won't hire until 16, but you can always get a job as a 1.lifeguard - you'll need a cpr certification though. 2. retail - they are always looking for new hires. 3. ask your parents if they know anyone who runs a business. I got hired to literally pack boxes and move my mom's company for 20 bucks an hour one summer. |

At 15 iots going to be hard to get anymore than minimum wage, so if you can't get into mowing lawns, or babysitting, then work in a fastfood restraunt because they raise your wage faster than in any grocery store. you just have to look around. and it also depends on where you live as to find out what places you can work and age limitations. |

Call me old fashioned but you could use a typewriter or word processor and if you need a computer tell your teacher that you need to use a classroom computer after school to do your work. |
