Darryl L | I am an American. I need to know about British money? |
How much is 720.00 (pounds, I guess - there is a little sign resembling a cursive " L " in front of it.) I think someone in Great Britain is trying to scam me. It involves the 'Microsoft Lottery', and they want me to send them that amount for what they claim is 50,000 dollars. It is for handling, insurance, etc. is what they claim. I would like to know how much they are asking me to send them. I am not going to send them anything, but I am curious. |

Don't be fooled, my friend! As a man who visited your homeland, on holiday, (vacation), in 2005, - where I was greeted, and treated like a God, by your countrymen, - I feel very ASHAMED, of the fact, that, - APPARENTLY, - there are those, here, - in MY Country, - who think it "RIGHT", or "FUNNY", to try to take a "VISITOR" to OUR Country, for the proverbial "RIDE"! £720 Sterling, - at TODAY'S rate, is around $1,450!
These people ARE trying to SCAM you, - but, - PLEASE, - believe me, when I tell you that WE ARE NOT ALL, THE SAME! |

It's irrelevant how much that amount is in dollars because there is no such thing as a Microsoft Lottery...sorry to say but you are being scammed, take a look here...

in the UK the lottery is called the national lottery or lotto |

Don't send it. It is a scam. They'll take your money and you won't see it again.
There is no such thing as the 'Microsoft Lottery'. Even if there was they wouldn't ask you for a handling fee.
Real lotteries take a percentage of peoples stake (ticket price) to cover handling fees.
BTW 720.00 pounds is over one thousand dollars. |

It's a scam, please keep hold of your money. Don't give out any personal details, bank, credit cards or anything of that nature.
Read 'lottery' as scam. DONT PART WITH YOUR MONEY OR DETAILS. |

720 British pounds equals $1,392 dollars in today's exchange rate. That symbol is the british sterling pound symbol, a currency used by great britan and some other countries. DO NOT send any money to scams like that. Report them to your internet service provider's fraud prevention department. |

If anyone tells you that you've won money, but need to pay a fee to claim it it is a scam!
Don't even phone them as this is often a dodgey premium rate number connected to an answer phone in a banana republic somewhere! |

First of all, you are most correct to be sceptical. I would agree that itsd a scam, nut you know that.
The rule I remember to do quick converts is half the dollar, double the pound. Therefore, £720 would be in the ballpark of $1,440. A lot of money on either side of the atlantic.
If you want a more accurate figure, you can go to yahoo money to look it up:

Wise man - do not be fooled.
Free currency converter UK£ to USD will give you the current day value conversion.
I wouldn't even consider £7.20 pence never mind £720.00.
For £720 dollars one could buy a reasonable Holiday to China |
