Listen, these days it is VERY difficult to gain an "entry" level position when an individual does not have any real world or work related history. I know it is terriable. Entry level postions are suppose to be just that: "Entry Level". :-(
Entry level positions, by defenition are suppose to be jobs which require an education but not any real job experiance. Entry level is when you HAVE Education and are entering a certain field related to that education to GAIN the experiance. Once experiance is established, and an individual has demonstrated skills, then advancement opportunities are suppose to present themselves. Those who are outstanding in their chosen fields, that is those who are well above average can "climb the latter" to ever higher postions within an organization. Those who demonstrate more average skills are capable of achieving average advancement.
However, these days "Entry Level" postitions require an indivudual to actually have experiance in order to gain an postion in the field of education. This is due in large part to the influx of illegals who will work for wages far less than Federal Minimum Wage. Many believe these illegal workers are only taking jobs American's "don't want". This is simply a gross untruth and in fact they are harming our citizens in ways they may not even imagine or are aware of.
Undocumented workers are just trying to get ahead. They are poor folks who just want a better future for themselves and their families. However, sadly, they are creating a horrid situation for those of us who were born here and are citizens. By under cutting the Federal Minimum Wage, employers do not find it neccassary to hire at that level of pay. So, when they can cut their overhead so drastically by hiring hundreds of workers at such dismal wages, it creates an ability for them to also hold out hiring those fresh out of school.
How does this happen? Well it is very simple. When they cut the wages so drastically that they pay their lowest, unskilled laborers, they have the ability to hire only those with experiance and pay a smaller wage to them as well as well with the extra benifit of not having to wait for them to be trained or gain experiance.
So, not only are you hurt by finding it nearly impossible to get a job in a field you have been educated in, those who do have experiance are finding to their dismay they are being paid far less for the exact same level of skills they were once paid a higher salary for, AND they have to perform an even higher amount of work for that pay.
This is the delema facing us who are born, raised, and fortunate enough to get an education. It is why the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. It is a major reason the middle class is shrinking before our very eyes and the American Dream is pretty much just a dream now not even close to becoming a reality for many.
Once it was expected that those who gained an education, and/or was able to get work related experiance without formal education to be able to one day own their own home, give their children a better life and finacial security as well as put them into some form of schooling after finishing highschool. It was also expected they would be able to give their children the ability to participate in activities like music, dance, athletic games, etc which all cost money we can not afford any more.
Now you know the truth of the difficulties you are facing and why you are facing them I am going to give you a way to get some experiance that will look good on a resume. Listen, you are not going to like what I have to say, but you may find you do not have many options right now. You need to look at this as continuing your education. Find some charitable work to do which will put you in as close contact as possible with office work.
Now, I understand you really need a job. Get ANY job while you do this. This is what I had to do in order to break into an "Entry Level" postition. Ick!! Not that I minded doing free work. It is just inherently unfair of us to have to do things this way. We use to be able to get out of training or school and quickly find a entry level postion to get us started in the direction we were heading career wise. So, anyway, get any job which will bring in some cash and do vollunteer work to gain more experiance. This will also demonstrate ingenuity, work ethic, and a drive to do what it takes to get ahead. In positive ways.
There are those who understand all to well the delema you face as more of us every day face it too. There are those who will get you into vollunteer positions to advance your experiance once they understand what you are trying to do. They will welcome your help and work with you to meet your needs as you work to meet the despertly needed help they need too. Explain to each non-prophit what it is you are doing, what you are trying to accomplish. Give them a speil and offer a certain leangth of time you are willing to work for them in return for ever increasing responosibilities around the office. There will be some things you can't do because of confidentialality and other reasons, but there is also much you CAN do.
If you look at this as educational and make it into a challange and an adventure then you will have a positive outlook. People want those who are creative and positive around them. Working a full time job feels like you live there after a short time. So, anything or anyone who can lighten the day is an asset and a joy to have around. Nobody wants to spend long hours each day around a sourpuss or such.
Good luck |

Unfortunately, the majority of companies out there nowadays will require a person to have a full 4-yr. Bachelor's degree, at the very least. An Associate's in Science is just another way of saying to these companies that you can only do menial tasks that're similar to what a person with no degree can do, AND they can pay those non-degreed less than an Associate's worker. So, these companies will rather hire those with no degrees instead. Unfortunately also, an Associate's degree is viewed as something in the middle, and in the job market, this is just not good enough to cut it. So, if you want a serious job in a corporate setting, say, please consider going back to school and try to get your full Bachelor's degree. Best of luck to you. (i know exactly how you feel, trust me). |

Plain and Simple

Associate of science in business, does that mean you took general business classes? Accounting, marketing, business law, economics? You should be able to be helpful in a lot of fields, just start in an entry level spot and you should gain experience and be able to get promoted. (Other people who don't have your degree could get the entry level job but wouldn't be promoted.)
How you present yourself may be having some effect on your applications. Get in the habit of spelling correctly just as you would dress nicely for a job interview. |

Sometimes, you can stand out in a field all day looking for something, and never spot it.
If you're smart, you go look in another field. Sometimes, you'll find exactly what you were looking for.
Good luck! - Stuart |

I am having the same trouble. I also have an associate degree in business and have been graduated for a year now and haven't found a job in my field. So I just got a job in a bank so that maybe that will help me out. Is there a bank or somewhere that you could try for a job? |
