most of them seem snooty and snobby... I don't know any french folks so I can't say, but that's the consensus among those who do.. personally..I don't see it. but I've never met one in person. I think the snooty/snobby thing is a misunderstanding of a cultural glitch... |

The French have been despised for a long time, and not only by Americans. I've met quite a few British who don't care for the French as well as Germans and even a few people from Africa. I can recall people saying negative things about "the French" way before GWB or the trouble with Iraq. I think most of the animosity is really based on experiences with Parisians who are reputed to be rather snooty and not the French in general. I believe on the international level they tend to act as if they're still this great big empire like from the Napoleonic days (and he wasn't even French - but Italian) -- they don't realize it's just not that way anymore. I think when it comes to international politics they tend to do what they feel is best for themselves without regard for what's best for their allies.
Also, I’ve noticed of late a rather perverse appetite in France for way-out fringe conspiracy novels about current events in the US.
Now that I think about it, there's a lot of reasons to hate the French:
French demands after WWI were one of the major causes of WWII.
Much of the extreme leftist politics that divided the world for a long time started in France...
In the 80's and 90's they were detonating nuclear bombs without regard for the environment....
They still love mimes...
BTW, they in no way have better coffee than the US, they don't even grow coffee. We have Kona. |

Well I am currently living with a French woman and I can tell you quite often I don't care for them either.
If I am to judge them all by her (which I wouldn't just trying yto give you an answer)
I would have to say
1) They are loud
2) Drink ALOT
3)LOUD
She seems alright for the most part and I could go on but the question is Not 'What drives you crazy about your roomate?"
So thats it! |

Because the French have better cheese, wine and coffee than the States, and their cities are more beautiful. Also, they put mayonnaise on their "freedom fries," which is an insult to all the proud ketchup makers in the States.
BTW, to "george the cat" - Obviously, France doesn't grow coffee. I was talking about the coffee as it is made available in your average cafe, coffee shop. While Starbucks makes okay espresso, and decent brewed coffee, they make godawful cappuccinos and cafe au laits, with way too much milk and foam - why don't they put a cherry on top and call it a sundae? |

I have no idea why Americans hate the French. I know that I dont. I don't think that you han hate a race, only certain members of the race. |

From an English point of view, I find most French people are arrogant, they don't like the English because we won most of the wars we fought with them and when they got involved in wars with other countries it was us and the USA that saved their a****s. They never even said thank you |
