My Deepest Condolences.
The least expensive way to go would be cremation. BUT, you should also know that if you contact your local church, elks club, kiwanis club, mayor (if it is a small town), city council, VFW and American Legion (if he was a Veteran). you will find that many, many people will be willing to help you. Allow the news to do an exclusive story and set up a bank account and I bet the people will help.
Only my most sincere thoughts are with you during this most stressful time.

Thought to remember: Matter never ceases to exist...it just changes it's form. |

The cheapest would be cremation. you can still have the open casket and all of that if you would like. But that is the cheapest. |

I am sincerely sorry for your great loss. Try Social Services or Human Resources. I'm personally not happy with cremation, but it's necessary for me because I can't plan on being buried - it's just too expensive. Perhaps you could call several funeral homes in your area and explain to them your situation. They may let you make payments. |

If your husband was a veteran, the VA will take care of most of it, otherwise don't let a funeral director guilt you into more than you need to meet the needs of you and your family. From the earth man came, so must he return. Good job on keeping that in perspective. |

I'm so sorry for your loss.
I've buried my mother, father and sister so I can offer some advice. Mom and Dad had traditional funerals--with caskets, viewing days and all that. But my sister wanted cremated to save on costs. Unfortunately, if you don't do it right, cremation can be just as expensive as a traditional funeral. Here's what I learned:
Cremation is only cheaper if you don't have a viewing in the casket. The funeral homes charge for the viewing. And they also charge for casket rental, or the charge is for the casket outright because they burn it too. Bottom line: you don't need a casket if you don't have a viewing. In addition, there's no need to have multiple days receiving guests. Funeral homes charge for each viewing--even if you're not having a viewing, you will be charged to have a room for receiving guests. Therefore, one visitation the day before or the day of the cremation can be very affordable and emotionally sufficient if you're not hung up on the traditional funeral arrangements.
You could go a step further in saving money byt have a cremation but no reception at the funeral home. Instead, you can have a small service at the church once the cremation is complete and you have the urn. Then have a reception after the service in the church community room. This is what I would do instead of doing everything at the funeral home. Just use the funeral home for the cremation and nothing else. |

I am so sorry for your loss.
Check all the funeral homes in your area for their prices. Any of us who check around, won't help you if we aren't in your same area as prices vary from state to state and funeral home to funeral home. |

You will have to have him cremated. It is federal law that a funeral home has to handle the body at all times, unfortunately there is no way around that. Have a very small service if you want or just a burial will be less expensive and have him cremated. I am sorry for your loss, I am sure this is a very difficult time and it stinks that on top of everything you have to spend a lot of money. Assuming you do not have to ship him anywhere, you should be able to spend under 1500-2000.00 Shop around for the lowest price, there can be big differences. |

First of all, my deepest condolences on your loss. I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through.
You don't say what state you live in, so I would start here:
http://www.funerals.org/directry.htm
Select your state from the list of non-profit funerary consumer groups.
Cremation is usually the most inexpensive way to go, and you can find more information at http://www.funeraldepot.com/Funeralandcremationnetwork.htm |

I am very sorry to hear about your loss. Since we don't know where you are located it is a little tough to answer. Usually your local funeral home will help you in setting up payment options that you can afford. I know with my mother in-law They were going to do that. God Bless and good luck

First of all, I'm sorry for your loss. Let me share a recent funeral with you: A brother at our church had died unexpectedly leaving his wife devestated. We know he is with the Lord and that gave us all peace but his wife still had to deal with the expenses. She decided to have him cremated, mainly due to the cost, but with help from the church and family, all turned out well. If you have a church, then ask them for help. If you don't have a church, talk to few churches and explain your situation. Also, just ask the Lord to lead you and He will! I'll pray for you right now. God Bless! |

I'm sorry about your loss. Many times there are community cemetaries that will accept people at little or no cost. It would be something you'd need to check around your town about. As for funeral expenses, phoning each one in your area is about the only way to know for sure. It is possible to rent caskets for the showing, then purchase a burial type casket for less than the fancy ones. Hope this helps in some way. Good luck with everything. |

I live in WA state and our town has a funeral service called Affordable Funerals. They contract with another funeral home in a bigger town nearby. They will do a cremation for about $800. Most people just have one viewing then graveside services with friends doing the speaking or CD music and perhaps a gathering at the family home for friends to stop by. It's much more personal. Seriously do the things others have listed. Possibly borrow the money from a friend or fam member then when you can sort things out you might find things to sell, extra vehicle, boat, camper, etc. to pay them back. Most funeral homes can and will help you find a way. There are state laws that the deceased must be taken care of. Check with your state funeral assoc. too. Get your facts, head up and do what you must do to carry on. Bless you. |
