if there is clearly more than half, some places may still not take it, but the bank will take it and send it off to wherever they send unsuable bills and give you another one in its place**edit** if you have a quarter of a dollar bill you may as well throw it out, nobody, not even a bank, will take that. Then they run the risk of having people ripping their money into quarters and getting four times the amount for each peice. It has to be clearly more than half. |

Well I remember being given a 20 dollar bill to me and it was torn in half to split between my twin and I. At the bank I was told if you still had both halves it would work, but considering you have only one, I don't believe it will. Best way to find out is ask at the bank, they're money people!

From your description, you found less thatn 1/4 of the bill. I would not try to use it, as there is no way, with that small amount of bill, to determine if it is counterfeit. A ripped bill or a corner torn off can be taken to a bank and they will exchange it for a whole bill. |

If you have an intact serial number possibly the bank will exchange it. Since it is only about 1/4 the size you can't just use it at a store.
If it doesn't have an intact serial number it is of no value. |

Nope - has to be over 1/2 of the bill obviously - or everybody would get a $5 and tear it in half and go to the bank and get a $5 bill for each half.
Seems like the rules are that you have to have a torn bill which still has three corner numbers.... |
