I have been recieving letters saying I have won money...?
They will send me like 2 letters at a time. In the letters they ask for 20 dollars as a processing fee... which I know most ppl will automaticaly consider it a scam... but if they send me a check to deposit in the bank can i ask the bank to monitor it closely before they actually send money anywhere? by the way... they are called...

prize research intelligence agency A.K.A. Allocated Disbursement Authority

any one ever heard of them?
They say they are an independent information organization that lets people know about cash they have won.

throw it away it's not even worth having your bank track it, especially if sophisticated phishers and spammers are involved in this scam. I get these occasionally.

There is no such thing as "Winning" something where you have to pay a fee to get your money.

That is just not how it works. When you WIN, you WIN...and I don't know of anything legitimate where you win something you didn't knowingly enter the drawing.

You can receive things that say you've won a chance to win, or you've made it to the finals....but even then...the next step is your you to knowingly enter to win.

SO, yes it is absolutely a scam.

Anytime you "Win" money or prizes and you have to
send them money first then it's a scam. Just throw
that type mail away.

its probably a scam, i wouldn't send them a sent.

triload
You should contact the FBI. That sounds like a scam to me.

Geodal
Even if the bank monitors the check, once the check does go through they will have your bank account information, and trust me they will make a withdrawal, maybe even a full withdrawal.

No No No No No

Please don't give them any money - it IS a scam - there are so many scams out there trying to get your money - basically they won't send money to you until you have sent money to them and if you send money to them you have no way of getting it back - 20 dollars may not seem like a lot but from all the people who will send it - it mounts up.

Who is the actual company giving you the money you have won - why have they asked a third party to ask you to send money for the money that you have won through another comapany? It sounds complicated and dodgey for a reason - becasue it is.

Ask yourself why you would have won money - did you enter a lottery or a prize draw - if you didnt then how could you have won anything? People don't just give money away for free, otherwsie the company would go bust - and if you are not affiliated with the company who is sending you the money then you have to ask yourself why they choose YOU . If the company really was giving away free money wouldnt they choose people who have used their service and are loyal customers than randomly pick an address.

Do a quick search on the scam websites for the companies name - or post a comment on one of the scam finder pages asking other people if they have sent money to this company, that is the best way to find out for sure - you might get a reply saying ' yeah they are great - people really do give money away to strangers for free' I may just be pessimistic !

I have won sweepstakes and believe me, this one is not a real sweepstake. You're being scammed as all the others have stated. Whenever I have won I was required to fill out some papers and have them notarized, cost $6, that was the extent of any money I had to put out. I had them send me the check and they didn't have to know my bank account number either.
The scam they are pulling on you is one in which they will deposit money into your account but will then draw it back out and you will be stuck with having to reimburse the bank.

its a scam, dont reply, you should tell the cops, and then they will do something about it....dont trust them, whenever someone says you won something dont go for it, unless its mailed to you, an no money is needed....

According to the Havelock Police:
1. The notices are fraudulent.
2. If you attempt to cash these checks, the police might file criminal charges against you!
3. Do not send money.
4. This is a scam.

Dear baby_cake,

This is just another boiler room scam.
You did not win any money .. Use yuor common sense.

First .. Did you ever enter this contest?

2nd ...No One has ever been asked to pay money to receive a prize they have won especially money ..doesn't make sense.

Independent organization ..as ..untraceable.

Long before computers and email this scam as well as hundreds of others were circulating by US mail.
I remember one I received telling me I won an inflatable boat and all I had to do was call the number verify it was me and when I called they told me all I had to do to "collect" my prize was pay 69.99 for shipping!

josephrob2003
dont even go there, hope you did'nt part with your $20,if you did,say good bye to it.just another scam

Rainbow Warrior =D
Sounds absolutely like a scam! I wouldnt believe it at all.

*By the way, I googled "Allocated Disbursement Agency" and there was NOTHING related to a prize agency...hence, its BS!

Jase
Never heard of them. Just be carefull, I wouldn't respond at all. If you truly won something, a legit prize, they will not be asking you for money to give it to you.

I had a scam similar happen to me except they sent me a real check. I did some research and called the bank that the check was from. They said that it was defiantly a fraudulent check. They had been getting them and thought it ended but they just started getting more. What they wanted me to do is take the check deposit it into my account and all I had to do was call them when I deposited the check and they would tell me what to do from there. They wouldn't give me any other answers and could tell something was fishy. What I found out is people deposit the check you call them and you are supposed to get X amount of money out of your account and send it to them and then low and behold the check doesn't go through because it was a bad check. So then your **** outta luck and just gave them money and their gone, You can look on BBB it defiantly sounds like a scam nobody just gives money to ya. You can do some research on it but I wouldn't even waste my time just throw it away!

it's me!!
If it too good to be true then you most likely are trying to be scammed! If you won this money it would be in your bank by now and would have to pay NOTHING! DON'T PAY THEM A PENNY!

Todd B
About 162,798,436,796,230 other people have gotten the same mail, or email. Contacting your local police or the FBI will do you no good. They aren't really able to trace this to anyone.

It's a scam. Nothing you can do about it but throw it in the trash and DON'T SEND THEM ANY MONEY!
