I have just come across some ten pounds notes that I misslaid some years ago.?
On the back of the ten pound notes there is a photo of Florence Nightingale, are these notes still legal?
Will the bank take them in and issue the new £10 notes?

Yes they will exchange it without any problems. Although it is not classed as legal tender this only means it cant be spent in shops etc. The banks are duty bound to exchange as long as its genuine. Old notes that are classed as mutilated are those which have been damaged in some way but these can still be returned using a mutilated note form, available from post offices, to Bank of England who will issue a chq for the full value. Dont worry banks do this nearly every day and when notes are changed millions of ££s of notes that were under duvets appear for exchange. Only really really really old notes such as white fivers are worth more to collectors and they have to be pristine.

All old notes can be exchanged at any Bank. Older ones may have to be sent to the Bank of England and then credited to your account a week or so later. You will have to be a customer of the Bank.

take themn to the bank andf ask. if your own bamk will not then you should be able to get them exchanged by the bank of england.

It may be too late for that particular note to be exchanged now, but it would be nicer to keep it anyway.

You havnt needed it for the last ten years, so I dont expect it will change your life much now.

:)

The only bills they will not exchange are those that are no longer legal tender such as One pound notes. While many stores would not as people would be afrad they were counterfit they will at your bank.

Hi,
you can get much more than 10 pounds from somebody who collects old money.

terrysainswhu
Put them on Ebay for twenty quid each collectors items? you never know.

friSbee
I'm sure any bank will change them without question, you may draw the tellers attention to the ' I promise to pay the bearer on demand ', remark or ask to see a manager if they become evasive though I'm sure there won't be a problem. People unearth old notes all the time! You may even get £11 or £12 pounds for them from collectors if they are clean and crisp!!!

You might not be able to change them at main banks but you can take them to the Bank of England in London and exchange them

I done this with loads of £5 notes in my grandads house after he died.

Or give them as change to unsuspecting people at a bootfair
