I have some Canadian quarters, dimes and nickels and would like to exchange them for United States currency.?
Am in western suburbs of Chicago and would like to know where to go to exchange these coins for U. S. currency.

I live close to the border and we frequently see Canadian coins.

Most small stores do not want to accept them, other than pennies, because then they get stuck with them and have to deal with the bank about them. Other customers don't want them back in their change. (Often the waitress or busboy winds up with them left on the table!)

Banks will accept them, but they usually want a decent amount before spending time in the transaction.

Casinos in Michigan, now, might be a better place. They try to attract Canadian tourists away from the casinos in Windsor. I'm sure they would make it attractive to accept your Canadian money, coins or bills.

what a bunch of idjits...
take them to your bank. Most banks will exchange foreign currency with no problems.
Or... if it was me, I'd just spend them as the exchange rate you'll get would be less than the actual worth if you spent them as if they were american money.

currency exchanges the change money from anywhere in to the money you want

pooptanic
You can't change coins from any currency into any other. No way no how.

mx3baby
Maybe if you went to a bank.

Unless you got a trunk full of Canadian coins, just mix them in with your regular change. I believe you'd get less money back for Canadian to US exchange anyway, so it would be more to your benefit to just mix them with US coins and spend them. If you have like $1,000 or more of Canadian coins, then go out and get $6,000 in US coins, mix in the Canadian coins and roll them back up and change back $7,000 in coin rolls. But make sure you find a coin changer that rolls your coins and does not charge you a handling fee. I've gotten Canadian coins back in change as far south as Houston Texas! How come there is never any Mexican coins mixed in?

Along the border, these coins are used interchangeably with US coins. The further from the border you get, the more hassle you receive.

You can't exchange coins at banks only bills. It depends on how much $$$ in coins you have to make worthwhile other suggestions.

WTF?
sneak them for quarters and dimes when filling up with gas!

Cheers

Why don't you just use them like US coins? The exchange rate can't be that much. You can't use them in US vending machines but you can use them just like you would any US coins.

for such small coinage, stores will take the Canadian money.

bond_girl1983
Sorry, you can't. coins have no exchange value. you can only change bills. so either save them next time you go to canada, and change them for bills, or go to your bank, and see if they will give you US quarters dimes and nickels for them.

How about your bank? In New York, we can use canadian coins for toll roads. This is a loophole, because it technically isn't 'currency', so they have to accept it at face value.

Contact you local banks and see if they will exchange the currency.

GO TO U.S. or something.
I don't know.

you could always go to the bank. they'd do it, but some banks make you pay and some don't.
