I have thought up a much better way to cool computer processors. My invention would be cheap, easy, pollutant free and more efficient than the usual heatsink and fan setups.
My problem is - what do I do with my idea? Should I patent it, or try to design and sell it, or what? If I show it to a company that does such things would they be able to just copy my idea?
I know my idea is sound, and workable, and cheaper than standard heatsinks are to build (but would sell for more)
What I dont know, is how to proceed...

first make drawings with notations about what each piece does and the material it is made of-it doesn't have to be done by a graphic artist but must be good enough to be understood. Write a cover page about the product explaining what it is and how it works. Write a page stating that you have designed this product, your name address etc. Take these to a local notory public and have them notorized. All this does for you is show a particular date that you started this process-it doesn't gaurentee you anything. Then you need to do a patent search to see if it is already patented, infringes on another patent etc. You can do this yourself or hire a patent attorney to do it-shop around because prices vary for different attorneys somewhat. An attorney is better than doing it yourself tho. Good Luck |

I suspect you are wasting your time for lots of reasons. But if you are intent on persuing this, you need someone to do a search of existing patents, then get your concept registered if it is original and valid. It won't be cheap.

You need to do a patent search first, to make sure someone hasn't already invented this. You should patent the idea assuming no one else has.
You could work on first draft of your patent while someone is doing your patent search to save some time.
Unfortunately, you probably need a patent lawyer or a highly skilled consultant to help you with both of these tasks.
But investing a few thousand dollars into a great idea could pay off handsomely. Good luck. |

Check and make sure that your product is not in the market. Patent it asap and then visit china. China manufacturers, will build those for you and you just pay the material and labor....

If you invented something and your absolutely sure that it will be worthwhile to make then the best thing is to patent it but be warned patenting can be expensive but if you dont then anyone has the right to copy it and there is nothing you can do about it if you havent patented it and then they can make alot of money that you should have been recieving.After you patent it then make it and then market it to the right people and sell to the highest bidder!Or make your own company out of it. |

for christs sake patent it first otherwise when you take your idea to a company they'll just rip it off and use it as their own. once you have your patent, try out a few companys and see if they are interested. |
