I work for an aerospace company also as a quality inspector on landing gear for numerous major airlines. It's becoming harder and harder to make any money in this field. To tell you the truth, flippin' a burger doesn't sound half bad anymore. |

I think by lowering your pay he was trying to make you quit. You didn't quit so he fired you. File for unemployment and be thankful you are out of there. |

Even though you were an at-will employee, there is suit and basis for unlawful discrimination. Consult your handbook...

the last item on the details could be a key point for you |

If he discharged me I would sue him for the $1000.00 per unit.
A deal is a deal.. |

This is a good place to start. If you can sell this line of cr@p to YA readers, you might be able to sell it to a naive employer. |

I would talk to your bosses boss and see what he says about your bosses actions... i would be pissed if i were you |

if you aren't under a contract then they can fire you for any reason they want. they are not forced to employ you.
by contract, i mean a length of time. not just the dollar figure agreed upon.
i'm sorry, and it sounds like you didn't deserve it. but they have every right to let you go. :c |

I think if your company has a union you should take this to them. This is not a fair case but be preparied because he might have a folder on you. |

Are you familiar with his superior?
Perhaps you should speak to them about your boss's behavior. It seems like he was up to something bad, and if you were fired for simply stating the conditions of the original deal he (or his boss) owe you an explanation. |

You hit the nail on the head when you said you were an "at will" employee. Employers can take anything as insubordination or "not being a team player", regardless of your tone. Choose your battles in future employment, and don't question authority, especially when your boss is cutting costs. They can get very touchy about money matters. |

Sounds like somebody wanted more profit for themselves.
And as you know, an 'at will' employee can be terminated for ANY reason, from 'excessive commissions' to wearing the color BLUE on RED day....
IT sounds like your boss is a 'turd' without the guts to face you. Pretty sad. |

Did you have a contract with him stating these terms? If you did not have a contract, you are up the creek without a paddle. With nothing in writing, there is nothing to enforce.
If you have a contract, check it out and see what it states. If there is a clause in there stating that your employer can change the amount of your commission, than see what specifications apply.
If you had no contract and work in an "at-will" state, your luck has run out.
THIS IS NOT AND SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED LEGAL ADVICE. IF YOU WANT LEGAL ADVICE, CONTACT AN ATTORNEY. |

Wow! Sounds like you may be better off somewhere else. You don't want to work for a boss that throws chairs. Unfortunately anyone can be fired, and for anything. (Or is that just a California law)
Seems shady.. Maybe they thought the payouts ($1000) were going to be too much so in turn they fired you. That sucks! Was anyone else let go? Also, when/if you file for unemployment make sure to mention your commissions- it MIGHT get you more money??
Sorry! |

In answer to your question, ... no, he was out of bounds to fire you over something so trivial. From the sounds of it, he is immature and an overeactor. Throwing chairs around?
It would seem that you have excellent grounds to draw unemployment, if you wanted to get back at him and sit around doing nothing for awhile. On the other hand, if revenge isn't on your agenda, it would seem like your experiences with this company would make a great addition to your resume.
Good luck to you. |
