All foreign exchange counters (believe it or not) have the ability to negotiate over their rates. Don't be fooled by the 'commission free' advertisments - if they say they charge no commission, but are offering a rate of 77p for 1 euro, you're gonna be much worse off than if you paid someone a £5 flat fee.
I always found HSBC to be the best when negotiating - go into a few different places (like Thomas Cook, Lloyds, the Post Office) and ask for the total amount of euros they'll give you for 2.5k. Then take those figures into some other places and simply ask if they can better the deal - eventually, you'll find a place which is offering you a decent price. Also, note that banks like buying sterling because it helps their own counter liquidity, so you should be able to do well. Good luck.
Oh, and ignore the liar above who's misdirecting you to one of the oldest scams on the web... |

Some banks will do it but they might want you to have an account. Avoid the Airport, they're very expensive. |

If you don't mind queueing, then the Post Office does it for free. |

I had this probelm about a month ago, I looked at several different bureau de change and travel agencies (in london and surroundings), and found that the Post office offered the best deal.
For £2,500 you may have to order in advance - especially at a 'smaller' PO |
