Here's what you can consider doing:
1. Introspect and write down a list of things that you feel you have done for your company which deserve appreciation i.e. list down your achievements.
2. Seek some time to talk with your boss and go over your recent achievements with him/her.
3. Get a view from him/her about the reason for your low rating.
Remember... no one can keep a talented and competent person down for long... so if you are confident that you deserve better then voice your concern
What NOT to do
DO NOT FIGHT WITH YOUR BOSS... be assertive.. not aggressive.
After all the talking.. if you feel that the boss does not appreciate you at all even on areas where you have genuinely done good work then SEEK A NEW JOB... thats life... it sometime stinks! |

You probably cannot change her mind, but maybe you could get her to explain how she came up with the evaluation and ask her how you can improve yourself for the next one. |

Don't sign it!! Find a new job. She doesn't like you!!! Are you lazy? If so, you should know a low eval. mean NO RAISE!! And you cannot argue that in court!!
Show improvement!! But she probably won't change her view of you..........Better to seek other employment!! |

Every evaluation has a proceedure for challenging it; start with a well thought out and worded answer to the issues you feel you did not score highly enough on. Point out specific examples where your performance was above your bosses interpertation of your skills. |

Asking why in a non hostile way. Then ask her what you can do in the future that will help you score better.
Don't get upset, and don't be sny either.
These things happen sometimes... Yeah it sucks I know.

Don't get angry. Don't get defensive. Do make an appointment to meet with your boss. Tell your boss that you would like to review your Performance Evaluation Report with her. Tell your boss that you do want to do the best job. Ask if you can go back over the eval item by item. Ask for examples of specific things that you could improve and ask how to make those improvements. Your boss may change some of the items or communicate with you what she expects. Thank her for meeting with you and tell her that you are going to begin making the changes. Ask if you can me again in 2-4 weeks to reevaluate. |

Ask for constructive criticisms if none was given. Ask her how you can improve, and ask her to set goals for you to meet. And don't just do what she suggests, do it above and beyond. Don't just make the goal, exceed the goal.
If you do everything she says, and even do things she didn't ask, and you still can't impress her. Then its a lost cause, time to either get over it, or find a new job. |

Read and evaluate the report very carefully and make a list of the things she talked about. Then systematically make the changes necessary to excel in those areas. You must buckle down and stop the things she did not like and work full time without doing personal stuff at work or laying out sick or whatever she claims or feels you do. Make a list and document your work for the next rating period if she just rated you low because she is a ****** or does not like you. Then take the list and the next rating and make an appointment with her supervisor (unless they are sleeping buddies or something) or the supervisor two levels above and present your case. |

Listen. Respond Positively.
First, make sure you understand what the issues are. If you truly don't understand ask questions. If you still don't understand ask for examples of what you did wrong and how you could have done it better. Schedule a follow up meeting if you didn't get this in the evaluation. Then, schedule other follow up meetings, maybe once a month, to ask for feedback. Any reasonable boss doesn't expect you to change overnight, but this behavior shows you care, and that you are trying.
Don't act defensively, pass blame, or withdraw into your shell. These things give the impression you are immature or simply don't care. |
