This sounds like a scam.
We were selling something on a local website, we kept getting e-mails from people claiming to live abroad or working on behalf of someone living abroad saying they were interested in the item and wanted to know our address and name so they could send a cheque for the amount of the item and for shipping fees. The item we were selling was only £50 but wanted to pay £3000, he wanted us to cash the cheque, take the £50 out then send the remaining money buy Western Union (which cannot be traced). When all the clearing has been completed you may find that the cheque was a stollen cheque and you may find that you are out of pocket for the amount of the item and the item itself.
Be careful, if unsure ask if they can pay by PayPal or any other way. |

Simply not enough details, but remember if something seems too good to be true it inevitably will be!
Oh dear, you're being given some real bad advice, even if the cheque clears and it turns out to be a cloned or stolen cheque, you will be liable, even months later! |

Set a limit as to how long they have to get the payment there or the item will be offered up for sale to another party. Also, do not ship the item until payment is recieved AND cleared your financial institution. |

If its a large amount, I would tell him that you will only send the goods once his cheque as cleared into your account. Otherwise if you send the item before the cheque clears, he could cancel the cheque, and you would lose both the money and the item you've sold. There are so many scammers out there. This happened to my mate. Luckily it wasnt a huge amount ( around £80 ) , but even so its a loss. Goodluck. |

It could be a scam , don't ship the item until the check has cleared , also if he sends you more than what is needed and asked you to forward the balance to someone else , the check is bad and you will be stuck ... |

don't ship to them until the check clears the bank |

If the buyer won't use another payment means, like PayPal, then hold the item for two weeks. This will give it time to clear the bank. Once you're sure he has sufficient funds, send the item. The only exception to this would be if it's a banker's or post office check. Then the money has already been paid and you can assume it's safe. Good luck! |

it's a popular con doing the rounds at the moment.
i know, i sold my Aunties car for her & the scams were never-ending!
i still get the odd email offering me far more than it was worth.
they say they'll give me thousands more & they'll send me a cheque or a bankers draft.
you reimburse them for the extra they insist they've paid you & Your bank then informs you the cheque/bankers draft bounced.
you end up out of pocket.
i didn't fall for it & sold the car to a friend.
be very very cautious if it sounds too good to be true, then it usually is & they're aiming on your greed to cloud your judgement.
exercise some caution when selling anything over the Net, as the money they swindle from you ends up funding terrorism somewhere in the world. |

Don't send any goods untill the cheque has cleared into your account!
Some scammers send cheques, receive goods, then cancel the cheque and disappear forever - so be sure before you send the goods. |
