I was given that treatement too despite them just giving me a return of four hundred pounds on my gas bill because I over paid them - I switched back to British Gas, When I told EDF that I was leaving they put up the payment on my DD in my last month. they now have over two hundred pounds of my money - what a rip off |

Yeah, BG tried this with me several years ago. All you have to do is tell them no. If your bill is roughly 3 times your monthly payment, just tel them you are not prepared to pay the increased amount. |

Do you get a statement? If so, the wife and I used the consumption amount to see what we'd be paying elsewhere. Worked out we were paying far to much, even compared to some of the other tariffs from BG! (Who were with) |

Gas prices are going down not up! Perhaps you have had your meter read incorrectly - and they think you are using twice as much as you really are?
Try uswitch.com to check out what other suppliers are quoting from your usage / previous bills. It is simple to use and very simple to switch. We did 3+ years ago - and all our friends!
If you are still on British Gas change to someone else now as BG are the most expensive! Usually best to go to Dual Fuel with Direct Debit payment to get best rate. Start smiling! |

Gas prices have been weak so look at your statement and check why they are raising your direct debit.
It could be that you use more energy than before. Of ir could be down to a misreading, or estimated readings (you know when they do not actually read your meter they just make a guess). Or it could be that they made a mistake.
It happened to us with EDF. It was a mistake on their part, so we called them and within a minute they put it back down to the original number. Simple really.

If you have been paying £42 an month for more than 18 months, two years, and your bill has not gone up at all in this time, then yes, maybe you do have to pay more.
On the other hand, take a reading from your meter, phone up your supplier and ask them what reading they have got for you. £80 a month is an awful lot. Like one of the previous answers, we pay just £50 a month by direct debit for gas and electric, in a big old high-ceilinged flat and after the winter we owe only £7. |

Shop around. WE are with southerng gas & electric and our
bill is£50 pcm for both services, we cook every day and have
gas central heatin. we are also in credit by £60+

HI, check that your last bill has not got an estimated reading on it. They may have estimated it too high. Always worth checking. Also, I have now switched from Southern Electric/Gas to British Gas for both my electric and gas, as thier prices are going down, plus when I signed up, I was offered a free months electricity.
