Bats barely see anything with their eyes, just enough to tell light from darkness...
The term "blind as a bat" usually is used on people that arent really blind, just like bats arent really blind. |

Because most people encounter bats when they have gotten separated from the roost, in the daylight? During the day, bats are more or less blinded by daylight. |

Although they are not blind, their eyesight is very poor.
The point is they don't rely on their eyes to 'see', they use their echo/sonar thingy... |

they are referring to how well a bat can see. a bat can't see much so they say "blind as a bat" |

bats have very poor almost non-existent sight and rely mainly on sonar to navigate the world they live in so the expression grew from that |

In day light bat is 98% blind. Though having light ,bat can see nothing. Compare with this having plenty of scope and knowledge around some one, he do not no anything. So the term is appropriate for this person.
We can see some thing only if light hits our cornia, but bats are lack of that rod/cone cells in their cornia. |

because is a wrong idea
see article:
The observation that bats can avoid obstacles in total darkness using sound waves has led to the assumption that they are sightless—hence the oft-heard expression “blind as a bat.” Not true, according to research conducted on the campus of Hobart and William Smith.

bats r blind..
how do they know where they r going and how do they dont hit the wall(for example)??? a bat has a very strong sense of hearing.. it generates sound waves.. if the waves r not reflected or absorbed by any object (in other words if the waves kept on moving forward); the bat goes along they way.. if the waves r reflected or absorbed it changes its direction and generates another waves..
i hope i helped u somehow |

Because they can't see the Light of things. Bats only see in the dark and see only dark things. Some people are like that they can't see the light of things right in there face. They CANT SEE IN THE LIGHT, LIKE A BAT. |

THAT IS A VERY OLD SAYING, BEFORE MUCH STUDY WAS DONE ON BATS. IN THE OLD DAYS, PEOPLE USED TO THINK THAT BATS WERE BLIND BECAUSE THEY ONLY CAME OUT AT NIGHT AND USED THEIR HEARING AND SONAR TO CATCH INSECTS OR ATTACK PREY. THANKS TO DISCOVERY AND NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC FOR CLEARING THIS UP. |
