I would support any protest of not paying TV licence.
In practice, the Government would prosecute and use scare tactics. They already do this with their reminder letters, which is one reason I am so anti the licence fee. Inevitably, the people picked on would be the more vulnerable who would not argue their case, and since (as of Monday this week) access to legal aid is now restricted, they would crush the mass revolt and for a large part the media (print journalists would be loathe to take up a case that threatens any media) would be unlikely to provide positive coverage. (Or if you are, prove me wrong....).
That said, Jonathan Miller (not the theatre / doctor) but a columnist started a campaign about three years ago in the Sunday Times of non-payment. Unfortunately, I stopped buying the ST for a while and I don't know why the campaign fizzled out, but clearly it did otherwise this question was not be asked....
Whereas with the poll tax there was a mainstream dislike of the tax and the govt that introduced it, TV licence is not such a contentious issue for many, nor it is it politically charged. I suspect that the govt would use the power of the courts until the revolt was squashed. I only wish I was wrong.
One thing appears clear - the govt is wedded to the idea of publically funded media service, even though presently the BBC are not towing the govt line, (eg WMD dossier). About the only notable political support they give is referring the Iraqi's who have resisted the invasion as "insurgents", whereas people in the second world war doing the same thing were hailed as "the resistence". But that's another topic... |

nothing. They would hav to back down.Remember there is always power in numbers- people could do almost anything against the government (or anything at all) if they only workeed together. |

If the protest was big enough they may have to abolish it like they did with the poll tax. They would probably bring in another way of making money. I heard that once digital comes in they will probably do away with the TV licence anyway. |

Nothing as it is a show of no confidence and they have to stand down. This applies to all other government imposed taxes and decrees also. |
