Hi there I'm afraid that you did the wrong thing.
You need to contact the person who gave you the cheque and get them to cancel the original cheque and send you a new one with your correct name on it.
If you try to cash a cheque where you have changed the recipients name you could get into a lot of trouble.
You can not just change them name or else every one would end up with money that didn't belong to them and cause massive problems.
I can understand why you did it, but to save yourself from any trouble it's better to get a new one sent to you.

There is absolutely NO NEED to email me telling me off, you could have simply added it into you original question as additional info or better still just ignored my answer.
PLUS the title of your actual question was 'if I had a cheque that was made out with the wrong name on, and I changed the name was that right to do that'
if you hadn't already done it you should have said 'would that be right' not 'was that right', you are talking in the wrong tense, so please do not lecture me about misunderstanding your question when I was only TRYING to help especially when you can't even use correct English.

You may not get into trouble, as long as the check is honestly yours -- but you probably won't be able to cash the check. Any bank that you take it to will be suspicious and will suspect that the check is stolen.
Contact the people who sent you the check and have them issue a new one with the correct name on it. |

Sorry but any check that has been altered is against the law.you could have deposited it to your account by writ ting deposit and your account Number.BUT by altering the name it makes it look like the it may have been as stolen.

If it was made out ot you simply spelled incorrectly all you had to do was to endorse both ways on the back of the cheque, however only the person who issued the check is legally able to make any alterations to the the cheque itself, any altering by anyone other than who wrote it may make it become null and void. |
