It's the word "perfect" that is the problem. I have found this old adage to be true, but there needs to be some clarification. The word "perfect" is being used in a relative sense more or less. Perfection can mean general mastery, as opposed to you being a god or something. Computers can do things perfectly, but it isn't truly perfect because there is no spontaneity or life to it. Perfection can often mean what _feels_ perfect. BTW, I am a professional violinist and although my playing isn't always perfect, I still have been able to find a certain amount of mastery through practice.
Don't get discouraged if what ever it is you are practicing doesn't seem perfect. True mastery comes with time. And no it isn't complete perfection, but the rewards of your diligence will make you _perfectly_ happy.
P.S. Some say this isn't good enough. They say "PERFECT practice makes perfect."The way you practice makes a big difference. Take the time do it right and don't forget that repetition seals perfection. |
