Actually you may want to look into counseling and/or medication. It sounds like you may be clinically depressed. Depression can pretty much take over your life, making it difficult-to-impossible to connect with others.
A low dose of an SSRI and some talk therapy may be just the ticket to seeing the sunshine again. Good luck. |

Well...right now I don't have any CLOSE FRIENDS but I do keep a few people around me. I don't go to night clubs or anything b/c it seems like there is always drama going on there. I try to stick to myself most of the time b/c it's less of a headache. You don't have to worry about people backstabbing you or spreading you personal life around town. Thats the good thing about this.
The bad thing about this is that you tend to feel like you have no one in you corner. I hate not having a CLOSE friend or a boyfriend b/c you have no one to share anything with or to talk to about every day problems in life. but when I get lonely I just think of the good things about this situation.
You shouldn't rush things...you might be asking for something you can't handle so enjoy the freedom.

It is all up to you to make friends.You can make good friends anywhere.If you can,you are never alone.
By the way,you did used the word 'keep friends'. So can I assume that you are not able to keep friends also?
if it is the case,don`t be sad.You will be able to hold them once they begin to understand you and vice versa.
One more option is there.You can make some really good friends on internet also.It sounds like a very common option.Am I right?You may also have tried to do that several times before but remained unable(I am not too sure that you did,but I just guess).
this may be is not that much exciting and may be it will be not the cure of your lonliness while walking on road or shopping,but believe me,if it worked,if you get a good understanding friend on net who chats to you.Who understands you,and to whom you can say every thought of yours,there will be no more lonliness.Some people never feel lonliness just due to a pet,at least you will get a good friend.
And ofcourse,having a pet is also a good idea.
but if you don`t want to make a friend on net or you don`t want to buy a pet,still the door is not closed.Believe me,for once again,you are still not alone.Talk to your neighbours,or talk to anyone,and soon you will find a friend somewhere.
I am only 18 and hence,I don`t have that much experience of life.But still I tried to give the best solution in my constraints.Hope it will help.
Sometimes I also feel deprived but I think my condition is slightly different from yours.Still I am hopeful to my future.Be hopeful dear,you will be no more in this condition.

I cope with sadness & depression by remembering that there are LOTS of fun & exciting times in life, and more are sure to come for you soon.
That said...
Keeping friends takes work... phone calls, finding time to hang out etc...
Also, meeting new friends is not just luck. You have to get out & find them, as very few are going to come knocking on your door. Friendly people who are willing to chat are often found in bookstores, coffee shops, & special interest shops. If you have a hobbie like dolls, trains, stamps or pets, it's easy to meet people and have a shared interest to break the ice at those kind of shops. Also joining a club will put you in the company of people with the same interests. I suggest an Astronomy club, or bridge group, martial arts, maybe just a local lan center for felow computer people.
Make an effort to be outgoing & friendly, and it will pay off! (This coming from an introvert, so I know it can be tough. Just keep trying.)

Find SOMETHING you have in common with someone else. There's an old saying that says to have a friend you have to be a friend. Look online or in a newspaper for listings of various groups (hobbies, sports, games, ect) and get involved with one or more of them. Before you know it you'll have plenty of friends of both genders, and all because you decided to stop concentrating on your OWN loneliness and instead took PROACTIVE measures in your life to show an interest in others. Please don't take my advice as harsh criticism, I may have come off that way but I sincerely want to help you. |

I felt for a second that you descri bing a great part of my life, I am married but my husband works for long hours. I dont meet him but for 4 minutes aday and that is true. I don't have friends because they all around you when they need something from you, and if you don't have something to give them they will turn their back immediately. I do all my shopping...etc by myself. I live everyday looking at the walls inside my room. watching a candel and infront of my labtop. I cope with my current life by hope. I always hope that God will open a door somewhere and make me find true friends. of course I need to be patient. and so you have..If you need a friend I'd be honored to be that person.
