If you know the weight of the package, you should be able to look it up online, on the website of whatever postal service you are using. For example, if in the US, they have a "calculate postage" link where you can also look at international costs by country.
If you are in the US and your item isn't too big, I would look into the flat-rate priority envelopes/boxes from USPS. You can order them for free (free delivery to your house, too!) and if your item fits in the box/envelope and is under a specific weight (within the US it is below 70 lbs, but international is much less, like 4 lbs for envelope, and 20 lbs for box) it will cost a single predetermined rate. This can save you a ton of money - for example, when looking at shipping a 20 lb box to Germany, it is $85 regular priority, or $37 for the flat-rate priority. The 4 lb envelope is $32 regular or $11 flat rate. It's really kind of amazing. In addition, if you're printing the label online (like through Paypal or the USPS website) it gives you an extra discount.
Of course, all of this only applies if you're in the US ^__^ |

The most accurate way is to take it to the Post Office and get them to weigh it and they will let you know how much the postage will be. |
