I would contact the owner. Thats the only right thing to do. I actually did find one about a year ago, no money, but contacted him and he came and got it and was very thankful. |

I would give the money and the wallet back, because I would want someone to do the same for me. I am a big believer in "What goes around, comes around" so I would never be able to keep the money and have a clear conscience. However if I just found the money I would keep it because I am sure I would never be able to really track down the owner..I mean can you imagine the response you would get to an ad in the paper saying...Found big wad of cash contact me if its yours....lol the phone would be ringing off the hook and you could never prove whos money it was. |

I would hand the whole mess over to the local police, and let them handle the situation. I don't want somebody else's money, but I don't want somebody else's problems either. There are all sorts of things that can happen if you just turn that wallet over directly.

I would give it everything back to the owner,and do my best to track him down. I follow the golden rule, and I would want someone to do that for me.
I also have found that anytime in my life I have done the wrong thing (like not trying to find the owner), life has a way of teaching you a lesson 10X worse than what you did, and I don't want that lesson!

Depending on how big the 'Wad of cash" is, i would either return it to the owner or the police and let them do it.
There are no other options.

I'm pretty sure that if the money can be identified, then taking it is tantamount to stealing, even from a legal standpoint. Generally, if it's in the middle of nowhere, I'd just leave it there or take it to a nearby police station or the like. If it's in a store I'd leave it up to the manager of the store (they're the one's with liability). If there's a phone number, I'd probably make an attempt to call them about it, unless it would cost my anything to make the attempt: if it seemed like too much effort given the individual circumstances, I'd likely just leave the damned thing there.
Apparently, I'm more of a goodie two shoes than I thought. Oh well. |

I've already had this happen twice....I returned the wallet both times with all of the cash. I treat people like I want I'd want them to treat me! |
