Save yourself the hassle mate.Change it to English notes before you go down there.

yes you can although in my local corner shop they do not except them, I dont know if that is legal or not of them to do that because it is legal tender. But most places take them. |

No |

Yes, but the recipients look at them with grave suspicion and they are sometimes refused as "foreign" money. As soon as Scotland devolves into a Country in its own right it will be "foreign" money. |

i had the same problem when i visited london a while ago.. buying tracksuit bottoms from a certain shop.. they called the shop floor manager in to check it out.. then he called his boss who in turn called his boss.... 45 mins later they get the all clear and im allowed to pay for the tracksuit trousers.. i felt like an f-ing criminal!!!! england needs to change its views about it!!! either tht or make it bloody simple and separate the countrys once and for all! |

It depends on the shop. Some allow you to pay with scottish money others don't, so make sure you have another way to pay if you want to try it out. |

by law yes but you get alot of paranoid shop keepers who refuse to accept them |
|

k²
 |
No you can't. I heard that this is because some time ago there was a big thing going on with counterfeit Scottish notes, and the fact that any and all banks can issue notes there isn't as much control over the issue of currency. |
|

le goo
|
Yes, but some shops don't accept them because they are weird. Just remind them that it is pounds sterling and that it is legal tender. However, those self service tills you find in places like tesco and M&S don't accept them, because you cant argue with a machine. |
|

Polo
|
Yes, you can, but some shops do not like taking them for some reason or other. |

Any bank note that says 'Sterling' on it is considered legal tender (although I think Bank of England notes don't have Sterling written on them. I would check but I'm a bit skint at the moment). This includes other Scottish banks such as Clydesdale and the Royal Bank. I also think you can spend notes from Northern Ireland. |

Yes, of course you can. It's British currency. If a shop refuses to take them then it's them that's loosing out. Go and spend your northern pounds with someone who likes to make money. |
