Yes they are endangering their children's life. |

You know, there are all types of abuse and i don't think that smoking around your child is one of them. Smokers are picked on a lot and have been targeted for all kinds of things, but come on abuse? If you smoke in a car you can always roll the window down if you are concerned about the health benefits or lack thereof. In my bedroom I will smoke if I want to, the kids can leave and go elsewhere. |

I smoke outside only. I do not smoke in my car either. But, what about drinking alcohol when you have kids in the house? Your jugement is impaired and you may not react to an emergency in the same way as if you were not drinking. Also, lots of people go out dancing and drinking and then they go pick the kids up from the babysitter and drive home with the kids in the car. Or...they drive the babysitter home. If smoking is abuse, so should this be. |

Yes. My mom used to smoke, and it would give me bad headaches. She finally decided to smoke outside.
Children exposed to cigarette smoke are at greater risk of developing lung infections, asthma and ear infections.
Infants exposed to second hand smoke are at increased risk of dying from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).
Children who are regularly exposed to second-hand smoke are at increased risk for serious, life-threatening diseases later on in life. |

while its not a good thing to do ,
NO!!! it is not abuse .
just because a parent smokes with thier child in the car dose not mean this person should be labled abusive .
im a smoker , (not around kids ) but i really wish folks would stop being so out right snobby about this topic !
live your life , and let others live thiers !
its not your kids in that car !
now if you see the parent bust the kid in the head or something , then by all means you cuold say thats abuse ..
but to smoke while the kids are in the car ,, dosent even come close to that ! |

Yes it is abuse. It is inflicting upon children an environment that is detrimental to their health, and one from which they cannot CHOOSE to remove themselves, or may be powerless to protest about, or even worse be to young to be educated about.
Last week in New South Wales Australia, a Bill was introduced for debate on the Banning of cigarette smoking in cars, also for consideration the partial banning of same if children were in the car. |

Smoking around any living thing is bad,
but not considered abuse - all though
it should be. If you want to smoke, don't
do it around your children - GO OUT SIDE! |

it's legally not an abuse yet. It should be, because the health, thus the future, of the chilren are at stake. |

Yes I think it is as secondary smoke can cause cancer plus the child is being forced to live in an environment that is unhealthy. We have come a long way in knowledge so lets start using it ! |

Im some states it is... If your child has astma then it is abuse to smoke in the house with them, or the car.. Its healthier to smoke away from them... But every parent is differernt.... Smoking inside your house by the window with it open, does seem to work, and telling your child that whe you are smoking you rather them not be in your face, but to stand back a little cause its harmfull to them.. |

No, but you should be looking out for your child's best interest. You know, like not giving them lung cancer due to secondhand smoke. |

It's gross and sets a bad example. If they're smoking in the same room or car as the child, I'd say it's abusive. |

nope, I think that all these diseases have been around for years, it's just now that everybody is nameing them now. Grandpa has smoked for over 60 years and his last Dr. visit he was given a better bill of health than I have. |
