Is anyone else upset that Wal-Mart is getting rid of lawayay?

Additional Details
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Some of you are ruthless, like Trainer. My personal finances are not in any jeopardy and my credit card balances are at zero. However, I do like being able to pick out a few Christmas presents in October and November and not have to worry about them being found in the closet long before Christmas, or forget them altogether. I've used lawaway since college and find it a very economical way to shop as there are no interest charges unlike credit cards.

My wife works in the layaway department at Walmart. There has been so many people coming in asking if it is true and complaining about it that it has been giving her a headache. The only way Walmart will reconsider is if the people quit complaining to the Walmart associates and start calling the home office in Bentonville. Just be prepared to pay a put away fee if Walmart reconsiders their decision.

as far as I'm concerned, they can close down Wal- mart completely

I dont shop at Walmart. Here is why:

Rawrrrr
I've never used layaway, but it is a nice option to have. I don't see why a large retailer like Wal Mart would get rid of it - especially since their base customer has an income of about 30-35k.

I Know Nuttin
I avoid Wal-Mart at all costs, so no.

Best-Of-Enemies
I am upset that anyone shops at that crappy quality craphole!!

It drives down wages and has been caught hiring illegals many a time. Why would you shop somewhere that doesnt pay LIVING wages??

Not really, I never needed to put merchandise away at Wal-Mart before.

lovenote♫
no not really
i dont like going to the walmart where we live it smells and really cramped

thomas c
they r?

silly_girl
yes i am very upset.I had worked at wa-mart for 6 year's,and a lot of our business is layway during the hoilday.People count on it.Like i use it for if i see something i really want and know it will be gone before i get payed i put it on layway.Wal-mart is going down hill

Well at first but where I live people are notorious for laying away hundreds of things at Christmas, you can not get the toy that is stuck in the back room and they cancel layaway half the time!!!

Alilas-ro
Yeah, I am.

YES!! It is going to be really hard for a lot of people this Christmas!

Not really. Who uses layaway anyhow?

Just blame the people who put things on lay away and then leave it there forever, causing wal-mart to lose sales. Cheap bastards.

beno472002
My mom mentioned it today and I was very disappointed. Using their lay-away was a good option for my Christmas gifts. Now it looks like I'll have to save up and pay as I shop.

I did not realize that. I have not put any merchandise on lay-a-way for years, so it would not make a difference to me at all. Have a good night.

Chico Infierno
Not for me peersonally, but for people who can only afford layaway for stuff they want and need.

i know i am.that stuff is not cheap

I love the flipflops
I read that somewhere but have seen nothing about it at my local Walmart.

When is this supposed to happen?

If you want me too

TrainerMan
I'm not. If folks don't have the discipline to save their own money for something or manage a credit card properly, they shouldn't be buying stuff they can't afford yet anyway.

yeah I think that they are going to loose alot of business. especially on the holidays, and back to school time. I bet that they are going to regret it and probably bring it back. I feel that it is a dumb decision on there behalf.

from your fellow walmart associate....

I THINK IT IS GOING TO HURT A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY THE BIG ITEMS UNLESS THEY PUT IT ON LAYAWAY. I THINK THEY ARE GOING TO LOSE BUSINESS!

with layaway, you don't get the merchandise until you pay for it, isn't that right? well, why give them part of the money anyway? why not just wait until you can afford to buy it?

Joe K

Layaway is stupid anyhow. Basically you are setting up a savings account that you are not earning interest on. So while you keep making those payments, Walmart is getting rich by investing your money. And it helps their stock go up because they have both your money and your merchandise in their posession. Technically it is theirs until you make the last payment.

Secondly I am sure that they make a small fortune off of the people who do not keep up with the payments. So if you made 4 out of 10 payments, and you didnt finish making the payments, they were able to obtain free money.
