In most circumstances it is. It is a violation of copyright to make another copy unless you have a license to do so, and another violation to sell or give away the copy.
If you never purchased the music in the first place, downloading or copying the music before you burn the cd is also a violation.
But sometimes it is ok. For instance, if you buy a song from I-tunes, you get the right to make a certain number of copies (I forget the number, maybe 6.) And if all you are doing is making a copy for yourself, the damages are less. |

If you are burning songs that you purchased, it is legal. If you are borrowing CDs from friends and making copies, that's illegal. |

Burning cds is not against the law since you are buying the songs, but if you get the songs for free or copy a cd from the library it is illegal |
