Only if you're reading reading this joke:
An American is having breakfast at the table (the usual - bread, jam, butter) when a French guy comes over chewing some gum. He plops down into the seat opposite the American and asks: "Hey, do you Americans eat the whole bread?"
The American replies, "Yeah. Why?"
The Frenchie snorts and then says: "Well, we French eat only the soft parts of the bread inside, and then we take the crusts crush it down and make it into croissants to be sold to the US."
The American says nothing and continues eating. Then the Frenchie looking at the American use some jam, says to him: "Hey, do you Americans eat jelly?"
The American replies: "Yes. Why?"
The Frenchie then says: "Well, at France - we only eat fruit for breakfast, and then we take all the leftovers, seeds and skins and process it to make into jam so we can sell it to the US."
The American says nothing, but after thinking for a while asks: "Hey, do you have sex here in France?"
The Frenchie replies: "Yes."
The American smiles and then continues: "Do you use condoms?"
The Frenchie says, "Yes."
"And what do you do with those condoms?" the American asks.
"Why, we throw them away of course."
The American smiles widely and then says: "Well, we don't throw our condoms away in the US. We boil it down and process it to make into chewing gum so we can sell it to the French." |

It is bad for you in the sense that the sugar content tends to be high and it will therefore produce some negative health effects. The most notable would be the impact that this may have on your teeth. As with all food/snack/candy products, however, the effects may not be immediate and you should therefor consider your health over time and have routine dental check-ups. Also, and as in all activities, if you engage in a behavior consistently over time you should be prepared to consider both positive and negative outcomes on your health and behavior.
Aside from that gum chewing is considered by some to be a disgusting habit, from the standpoint of the sound it produces as well as the sight of someone constantly chewing. It may also produce unwanted distractions that may pester some individuals.
This behavior can also have an effect on the way that others perceive you in society - note that satyrical portrayals of the "dumb blonde" or a generally stupid person are frequently shown chewing gum. |

Yes -
But it's hard to believe that a great tasting product like chewing gum has important dental benefits, but it's true! Here's how it works:
Saliva is your body's natural defense against tooth decay. It contains buffering agents that help neutralize the acid. When you chew gum, the acid is neutralized after 20 minutes of chewing. That's because gum chewing stimulates salivation at three times the normal rate. |

i don't think it would damage your teeth but it may be bad for your jaw bone. i seem to remember a famous football mamger having a problem with his jaw because of chewing gum all the time. |
