It not a sharpie. Its special marker that marks diffrent colors depending on if a bill is countfit or not. If it turns yellow brown its a real bill, but it if it turns another color it is fake. I worked in a cash office for three years and I used those pens millions of times.
The US Mint encourages this so that they dont have millions in counterfit money going around. The Cashiers do it becuase it they get a fake bill and dont check it they get money taken out of their pay.
You never knew that? I guess you dont get out much. |

They are not Sharpies. They are special pens used to detect phony bills. |

This is a great chance for you. You should study counterfeiting. It's very interesting. You'll learn what identifies a bill as real or fake. You'll also learn why it's a bad idea to counterfeit a bill. There are more than six security features in U. S. paper bills. Many can easily be identified with the naked eye. One that requires a magnifying lens is micro-print. The feel is also distinct.
Have fun. |

it's perfectly fine. it is to tell the cash office you've checked it for counterfeit. it's usually a highlighter anyway, no harm done. |

It isn't a Sharpie, it's a pen developed to be able to detect counterfeit bills. |

It's not going to work if she's just using a sharpie. There are special pens that work on bills. Looks more like a highlighter. |

No, it's not BS and it's not a Sharpie. It is a special pen that reacts to the bill to determine if it is real. The ink turns one color if it is real and a different color if it is fake. |

I believe that they are doing it to mark that they have checked it so that its not a fake. |

yeah just from the exp. of being a cashier more then a couple times... those "sharpies" are actually pens with a special chemical that reacts to paper that is not the specific paper money is printed on and when used on a counterfeit they tend to change another color... |
