Next harmonise the tax amongst the EU countries.
Let's see some of those Eastern Euro countries put up with UK levels of taxation and prices(coz you just know they won't cut taxes to the lowest denominator).
But would it really make any difference what your money looks like if you can spend it?
If my local pub took my debit card I probably wouldn't see cash at all! |

It depends on the exchange rate that you get, when you change.
Longer term, it will mean that in a recession, which is not Europe wide, and isolated to the UK, we will not benefit by having the value of our imports reduced and the quantity of our exports increased. It is a swings and roundabout argument, but one which would require the UK to follow more closely the monetary policies of Europe rather than the UK.
In particular, banking might become more European.

If it did happen I think it would be great - we need to be a united and strong Europe and having a common currency could only help. Apart from anything else, look at how much money we waste on exchanging euros back into pounds everytime we go overseas! |

no it would be excellent,so we can have a serious currency and proper,50,100,200,500 euro notes,instead of useless 5-10-20 pound notes,and everytime you show a £50 notes they look at you like a criminal.

It won't happen because US will not let it happen. If it does happen, then Euro might become the currency for pricing commodities. That means China and Japan and Taiwan and others will sell their USD and USD will collapse. UK is America's puppet. It does what it is told to do. |
