Is it because people are simply stupid that they believe in god or are there other reasons?

Another reason is fear. If you eliminate god from the picture, then you eliminate the illusion that your life has meaning, or that you have any control over it, especially when bad things happen.

Also just plain old superstition. As you grow older or have near death type experiences, you start to think, what if they were right? I'd better straighten out.

Maybe they think that man is not the most powerful thing out there. There HAS to be something more intelligent than what's on Earth now.

They are looking for answers. For most people, the exsitence of God just makes perfect sense.

look you are a stupid person. god exist and he created you. if it wasn't for him we wouldn't be her okay. he died for you and your sens and how can you say something so stupid maybe god should of think twice before he decided to create you.

Some people believe in God for innocent reasons, such as fear that there is no way to disprove the existance of God, and thus they believe it is safer to believe in God. So actually I think it is smart to believe in God. But I think it is stupid to say that God said this or that, because that would contradict science, because these human traits given to God are very human-like, and how something with any traits of a human be able to invent the universe and the human brain. And if there is nothing wrong with believing in something that contradicts science than you can believe in all ghosts, gods, goddesses, and magic you want but it will just be a hallucination.

The main reason why some people strongly believe in God is to justify and secure their exploitation of the masses for material "blessings".

The masses believe in God and religion due to ignorance and escaping reality with this "opium", the rulers believe in God to justify their exploitation, power, and killing.

The solution to all the problems of the world is for the masses to abandon God and religion, and take their destiny in their own hands and over-throw the rulers, so that they won't have to live such a horrible reality, from which to escape using God and religion. And thus make heaven on Earth, the inventors of religion said heaven was after death and nothing in this world can help you besides appeasing the rich by being good to them and not stealing or killing, but that is the fault of religion, the world is moving toward making heaven on Earth, the masses don't live in serfdom anymore because we want to live heaven on Earth, inevitable we will, according to the the trend of human social evolution in over-throwing masters, then feudal-land-lords, and now the capitalist politicians. But of course this would require educating the masses, which all the rulers of the world want to limit to them or completely deny to them. That is why the pro-masses intellectuals have to educate the masses through forums and chat rooms, because otherwise the rulers would arrest us and humiliate us if we were to talk of revolution in public, because it is opinion on an internet forum or chat room but becomes much closer to action when you stand in the street and call for a revolution.

One time, I was up on a mountain with a friend looking up at an incredible meteor shower. He is an atheist, and I'm not. He saw it and said, "wow, what if there was something out there that made that". I said, "wow, thank you God for making that". We both saw the same thing and had 2 different reactions. Even if God didn't exist, people wouldn't be stupid for wondering. I believe God puts questions in us that are unresolved, until we finally meet him. I met him through Jesus, his son.

It's stupid to be that close-minded. I'm agnostic, and for 20 years of my life I never believed in a higher power either way. But there's no way to know for sure- albeit that may sound cowardly, but life is a beautiful thing. Don't bash people that have faith in something. Whether it be God or purple monkeys. Because it'd only be hypocritical for you to get upset if someone insults a belief that you have. I.e., pro-choice, anti, or for abortion. They're personal endeavours. Accept individuality and accept that there are shitty christians out there-just as there are nice people out there that believe in God. But also accept life's trials and tribulations- move on, shovel the **** out of the way. live for now. And "free your mind."
