It's better to love yourself first...
People are always searching for their fulfillment, outside of themselves. The only way to really be in a loving relationship is to love yourself unconditionally and be self-sufficient and complete.
Otherwise people enter into a relationship with the idea that the other person is going to complete them in some way - make them whole. This is why people get hurt in relationships. Because their happiness is dependent on the other person. People give up on love because they are looking for it outside of themselves and expecting that someone else is going to come along and give them what they are missing. Most never find someone that can meet their high expectations. When they are in a relationship they are trying to control or change the other person to make them more of what they expect... not realizing that what they are looking for can be found inside themselves.
When you love yourself and are complete, then you can be with someone and allow them to be themselves, have their freedom, without feeling the need to control or change them. You will also be able to cope with a break up and move into a new relationship without dragging in all the old baggage.
Also... we never learn to walk until we are willing to fall. You cannot succeed unless you are willing to fail. You cannot receive love if you are too afraid to open your heart.
Key to relationships:
The Law of Attraction
BE who you want... and you will attract them. You can only attract what you are. |

It's much better to love and be hurt than never love at all. In Hitch (movie), the main character expressed it pretty well. You need to know what love is before you can truly be a real person-- even if it means losing some, taking some hits.
are you ever going to pick an answer on that question about your son? |

better to have loved because then you've had the experience. had you never loved at all you'd miss a lot in life. granted some things i would have rather missed but i appreciate the chance to have had the love and lost. |

It is ALWAYS better to have love, and lost, than Not to love at all. There's just is no substitute for the warm feeling you get when you love someone, and to have that love returned to you. There are plenty of materially rich people in the world, who are also the most miserabble individuals in the world. For me, I would rather have the requited love between me and my loved ones, than material riches anyday. |

"Curiosity killed the cat...but satisfaction brought him back."
How can people want to shut themselves off from any deep human experience, such as love? Even if you are unsuccessful in it, it's better to have had the experience than to voluntarily neuter oneself for fear of being hurt. Taking great chances involves taking great risks, but it's worth it to earn great rewards. Pain, joy, love, hate, failure, success - they are all part of what used to be called "the human condition," and experiencing the highs and lows of life - and pulling through them with your sanity intact - is what makes us ALL wiser and better people. |

Everyone at some point should experience it at least once to see if it suits them or not. I've been in love a few times, it's not for me.. |

If you never love you will never know what you are missing. If you never love you will never know what you want in a relationship. I have been married and divorced and have dated. I have fallen inlove a few times. It has shown me what I am looking for in a person. |
