It is legal as long as you do not mis-represent what it will be used for. If I were you I would investigate incorporating your business as a charitable corporation first. This will lend credibility to the charitable business and people may be more willing to donate funds. |

As long as ur honest and truthful about what the money's for then no. If it's not misleading and they choose to give u money then thats legal.
U should keep accounts and all reciepts to protect urself and prove where the money has been spent incase anyone asks to see them.
Good luck and well done for being bothered to do something to improve ur community. |

No it's not at all, it's like asking your friend for £500 it aint illegal, you can do sponsers aswell to raise money & your local bank can give you a loan if you wanna start your own business - banks can help you with the planning of it and tell you where you're going right and wrong etc etc... |

If you are a legalized non-profit organization, you can ask people to fund you. I would set yourself up first as a non-profit and have the paper work backing you, other wise you can get into serious trouble and people may see you as a scam, even if you are not. |

No, not at all. Maybe if you follow them or stalk them or something they might get mad, but I don't think that would happen! :) What cause are you asking for? |

If they're willing to give it I see no problem.. so long as you are honest when you tell them what the money is for, and you don't pressurise them into donating!
Maybe you could do some kind of fundraising event i.e. a carboot sale, or selling raffle tickets... |

No, its only illegal if you lie about what your raising it for.
You could try asking for sponsers from other business's |

No, it's not illegal but it's a good idea to do something for the money. Such as, a tombola, a disco, a bric-a-brac sale, allsorts of things. People just prefer to give their money when theyre getting something in return (:
good luck x |

not at all , you have the right to ask a random person on the street for money as long as you dont harass them. but better approach to this is start a fund raiser and you'll end up with more money because some one asking money. the public will think its for drugs or other realated things. Fund raiser is the way to go cause that way they know for sure where there money is going. You're wondering how to start a fund raiser just hang signs around , hand out flyers and then get 3 other friends get some snacks have a small presentation and ask for donations. |

No. But they can not take it off their taxes as a charitable deduction unless it is a registered charity. |

You need to have the business set up properly before soliciting money. Even non-profit charities have to file tax returns. There are lots of rules for soliciting money for a cause. Soliciting money is not the problem, it's what you do with the money that can become a serious problem, both with the IRS and with the people who are giving you money for the cause.
You need to define your business first, check with a CPA (accountant) about the tax implications and check the IRS site for rules about being a non-profit and/or a charity. |
